Anybody heard anything about a second run of DLC for Left4Dead or anything about a sequel? My wife is hooked on this game and would love to hear there will be more...(XBOX version, specifically)

No word on any new DLC as of yet, but I expect there will be some in the near future.

I doubt we'll see a sequel for a while, if at all. Valve is working on their Source-2 engine right now, so I guess it's unlikely they'll be thinking about a sequel til that's finished. Plus, they're working on Half Life 2: Episode 3, so I reckon they're up to their eyeballs at the moment.

Don't expect a sequel anytime soon, Valve takes a very long time to make games.

As for DLC Valve has released a lot of free DLC for Team Fortress 2 though it's hard to say for sure what route they'll take for Left 4 Dead. I doubt they'll put out as much content for Left 4 Dead as they have TF2, but you never know.

If you have a PC that's capable for running Left 4 Dead buy the PC version for your wife, Valve just released the beta for the SDK and there should be user created maps coming out soon.

L4D is one fantastic game......I have the PC version and I can't wait for the SDK goodies to start showing up.

Interesting. I wish my computer would run it-then I could play COD5 at night without having to wait to use the XBOX!

How old is your computer? If it's even a few years old but has an integrated video card you may be able to play Left 4 Dead (and many other games) with a $100 videocard.

Edit: This card should have no problems playing Left 4 Dead and World at War, and it even comes with CoD4 and World at War.

It's a very unusual move for Valve to release a sequel so quickly, but to be fair the Left 4 Dead developers weren't originally a part of Valve, Valve bought them out. Also from what I've read this game really didn't need any pre-production, they had worked it out during Left 4 Dead's development and started making the sequel right away.

Anyway I can't wait. Hopefully people who already have the first Left 4 Dead on their Steam account will get a discount. :techman:

Finally properly gory zombies. The chainsaws kind of a cliche though.

Press release:

From Teamxbox.....

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer thriller.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.

"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.

Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC on November 17, 2009, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor, and Online.

"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."

Left 4 Dead 2 will be featured as the cover story on PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazines this month. For more information, please visit www.l4d.com

I think its digusting that L4D is already getting a sequel which am sure will be bare boned as last one and somehow manage to charge full price  There is no reason why they can't create new character content like this as DLC for L4D.

saying that I'd prob end up getting it  but only after a price drop

Yeah, unless theres a special deal for L4D owners, I'll probably wait a few months myself. At least til I can find it for $29.95. I just dopn't have the budget for full-price games.

To be fair, it does sound like they pretty much revamped the entire game engine. Guess they figured there were so many updates and changes that it was easier just to remake the whole thing from scratch rather than have people downloading a couple of gigs worth of files.

I think theres no reason why L4D 2 shouldn't be sold for £20 on PC and £30 on 360. But am sure we will see £29.99 and £39.99 (another zombie genre game RES 5 had same prices at least where I shopped on release and aftwerwards)

If they sell this like ODST, that'd be fine. But then again, they're selling L4D1 with the DLC for full price right now.

If you can't wait for L4D2, don't forget Killing Floor--a cheap and nasty way to tide yourself over.

Now that my computer has been disinfected, I've been playing it a lot, and enjoying it.

Since the game is based on a relatively old engine, people have been coming out with mod maps like crazy.

Plus, it lets you hurl strange British insults at the zombies. I laughed out loud when I hit the "Taunt Specimens" key, and my guy shouted: "You're like a lot of bloody Millwall fans!"
