Left 4 Dead DLC

Rear Admiral
1) It's free!.
2) We don't know when it's coming.
3) ...There is no 3, as such. It's just that lists seem kind of pointless when there's only 2 points.

There's a new mode, called 'Survival,' which is playable on an unspecified 12 of the existing 20 maps. Apparently it's similar to Horde in GoW2 and Nazi zombies in CoD:WaW - which can only be a good thing.

What I don't understand though is how this will work. Do you need to defend a pre-defined segment of the level? Or do you pick a place to make a stand? Will there be any options to repair doors and windows in buildings?

Anyhow, it sounds awesome. More L4D is always a good thing.

Also for free will be the ability to play the Death Toll and Dead Air campaigns in the awesomely awesome versus mode. Considering the replayability I've had from No Mercy in vs, I reckon there's at least another 20 or 30 hours of playtime in that.

Anyone else excited? Is anyone still playing L4D? And those who aren't, will this make you drag it out?

I'll get it, even if it's just for the Survival mode. If that's anywhere near as good as Nazi Zombies, then it will be all kinds of awesome.

God I adore L4D. I play it on PC, it's brilliant. And yeah, I can't wait for the DLC - I'd pay money for it, so it's awesome that it's free.

One issue on PC: fewer players have mics than you'd find on XBL :(

I do enjoy playing L4D but I find it such a chore to actually find a good game that the prospect of connecting to 5 or six servers in a row that immediately either stop responding or decide that they're full after all that more often than not I say bugger it and go play TF2 instead.
As for the DLC; this is where Valve beats out all the competition. TF2 is a hugely different (and much better) gaming experience now than it was when it first shipped and none of the new content cost me a penny. The Fallout 3 DLC on the other hand...well let's just say I'm not spending a tenner and signing up for windows live (Steam's dim witted younger cousin) for what seams to amount to a couple of new toys and an hour or so of easy combat.

L4D is a good game though needs a few tweaks at the harder levels but the lack of content on release is shocking, especially with the price tag for the game. I brought it for the PC to avoid charges for the DLC though after this 1st one looks like we may get charged in the future and the game never should of been allowed to ship at full price and its time gaming world had a proper watchdog for such things.

The DLC sounds ok but theres no new fresh campaigns right ? so so bad

Still playing L4D a bunch on XBL. Most games I jump into are decent. It seeemed pretty obvious all along to me that the "new" maps in the game would be the other two campaigns opened up to multiplayer. I'm not sure how anybody could really see anything else happening there. Looking forward to getting to play those campaigns in multiplayer.

I'm in.
I finally got around to playing it the other day and had loads of fun with it.

As far as the DLC goes...If it's free it's for me!!!

I can afford free.

I just got this game and a wireless kit... so all I need is a headset (I think mine got lost in a move), but if you want some voice-free gaming, hit me up.

There are 20 maps (Valve will argue that there are 30 since the 10 maps for Versus mode are slightly rejigged versions of their campaign analogues), 2 different modes, 4 difficulty levels, and more replay value than most other console games on the market. Sure, the single player bit is a sticking point, but I don't see how this represents bad value for money.

You have no evidence upon which to base such an assumption.

Umm, yeah. Terrible.

£40 for 360 & £27 for PC...its appauling, especially against other games and they can try to spin what they want, nearly every review has said L4D content is too small.

Only rumors but there becoming more frequent, turtle rock who made the game has made it clear they want money for DLC in the future there 1st statement about charges is clear enough.

there is nothing funny there, simple as game companies get away with too much, games are shorter and more buggier these days...If you don't care then feel free to sit on your ass laughing more.

Dam right terrible.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's not like you're going in blind here.

Besides, there are watchdogs in the console space: Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony. Got issues? Take it up with them.

Personally I'd prefer a shorter game that's been immaculately polished to one that's been padded to reach some arbitrary standard of length.

One of the reasons games are becoming shorter, and why the best content is often front-loaded, is because most gamers don't finish the games they play, even games they enjoy. Ken Levine was crowing a while back about how amazing it was that nearly half of all gamers that purchased Bioshock actually finished it. Nearly half.

Jax, you are most definitely in need of a watchdog of some description. Maybe something like this? Get your mum to hang onto it. That way you won't be tempted to waste your money on games you already reckon are too expensive and too short.

I dunno, I am having fun going through the campaigns. I've only beaten one Campaign and stuck on the Finale of two others. I've been only doing online, so going through some of the levels again isn't bad since the enemies are random and that keeps things fun.

It might be thin on content, but I've spent a fuckload more time of L4D than I have on any other shooter this gen. The co-op experience is just brilliant, and each playthrough is different. A mate and I have gone through each campaign (with bots) countless times and it hasn't got boring yet.
