LeBron James: Malignant Narcissism

Who the hell cares where LeBron goes next? And even for those who do, why does this guy have to take AN HOUR on ESPN to explain it? It's not THAT important. This guy is so full of himself it's unbelievable...

It drives me insane when athletes, movie stars, politicians, etc. put themselves on a higher pedestal than the rest of yes. The media is also guilty of this.

We're all the same human race and I've yet to understand what makes Lebron or Chris Bosh or anyone of this ilk and more important than us that makes them deserve this kind of money or attention.

As a life long fan of Cleveland sports, I hope he stays here with the Cavaliers. He is a spectacular basketball player. However, he has shown himself over the years and especially now to be an immature child who has had everything handed to him all his life. That is not to say he doesn't work hard, I am sure he does. But ever since he was a sophmore in high school everyone began to treat him as the second coming, he is so used to being "the king" that it has obviously very much gone to his head.

His attitude has been one where he just expects to win. Two years ago he expected the Magic would just lie down and lose and he could move on and win a title. They didn't, we lost and he huffed and puffed. This past season we ran into a tough Celtic team that he didn't take seriously and we got hammered and he sulked away, didn't even put forth his best effort. Jordan and Kobe willed themselves to wins, Lebron doesn't have that in him.

ESPN has been hyping this up for two years, this is a classic case of a media driven story. That said, Lebron is a media whore, he loves the attention, so long as it is positive. Quite frankly he would not do well in New York. He has fed alot of this story as well. Wherever he goes I wish him the best and hope he wins alot of titles, especially if he stays with us. In any case he has alot of growing up to do, and I fear that he never will.

I don't really care about sports, but this was all over the radio this morning.

He announced he's going to the Miami Heat, and wow, are Clevelandites pissed.

I'm pretty sure the money he made off the interview was all donated to charity.

WHAT AN ASSHOLE.

I read that it was ESPN that got the idea of a live transmission. And yes, all income went to chariy.

Jim Gray, who's now freelancing after his NBC and ESPN stints, approached ESPN and LeBron's representatives with the idea. ESPN naturally jumped all over it, as that company has no shred of journalistic credibility whatsoever and is a blatant shill for any high-profile star, while LeBron and his representatives, who really mis-judged the situation and shouldn't have agreed to this at all, accepted on the condition that all the sponsorship money go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

What's really funny is that after a few days of hyping the shit out of "The Decision," and spending several hours leading up to the show with everything short of a televised blowjob of LeBron James, ESPN has now seen the negative backlash and is scrambling to wash its hands of the entire matter and publish articles by columnists wondering about his legacy, his reputation, etc.

Can this story die now? I think more time was spent on this subject than the finals this year. I think someone on ESPN said that with LeBron, Wade and Bosh on the Heat that the Lakers are done for next season. Not so fast dude. Let's see if the egos can get along first.

Growing up watching the Bulls during the glory years, I was kinda' hoping he'd sign in Chicago...

Oh well.

I thought about this song when I first heard the news. Maybe Lebron James heard it too and this was the reason he wanted to go.

He could have donated that same amount of money to charity himself without having the self aggrandizing "special." I used to think he was okay (I'm not a big NBA fan outside of sporadic interest in the Thunder), but that spectacle proves that LeBron is a self important tool. More interested in his "brand" than in the game. Who has a television special to announce this? Apparently he didn't have the common decency to give his former owner a phone call to let him know before announcing it on television. That's not how a person with class behaves.

LeBron quit during the finals. I'm not sure why he's such a prize to have. Who's to say those three super sized egos on the Heat will be able to work together? Playing in the olympics against Angola and being buddies isn't the same as playing in the NBA.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I've heard vague rumblings that this really backfired for ESPN somehow. But how? I don't get that.

The camera whore racist pipes up once again. Here's Jesse Jackson on LeBron James and the Cavaliers owner:

"He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers. His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship — between business partners — and LeBron honored his contract."

And I thought LeBron was an attention whore.

Why does the American media insist on dragging Jesse Jackson out everytime a black person ties his shoes?

Ever since he was 14, LeBron has had people telling him that he's the next Great One. They were calling him King James before he turned 20. Teenagers are self-involved enough as it is, without all that crap. It's hardly surprising that he grew up believing the hype. I wonder what headlines we'll be seeing next?

After Dinner At Mexican Restaurant, LeBron James Calls Press Conference To Describe Enormous Dump He Just Took

It's possible.

Ah, the gift that keeps on giving. you keep trying to return it but it shows up over and over. Jesse's worse than that one and only fruitcake in existence that makes the rounds in the mail at Christmas time.

Why does the American media insist on dragging Jesse Jackson out everytime a black person ties his shoes?

Is it more about the media seeking them out, or it is about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton always seeking out the nearest camera?

It's about enough people being interested in hearing what they say that it's in the self-interest of television stations to broadcast it.

You won't find that kind of interest in the opinions of most Internet posters.
