Laurentian System

Chaos Descending

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I haven't seen anyone ask this, but why was the main bulk of Starfleet "tied up" in the Laurentian System?

It had to be something very important, if it was keeping the fleet from saving Vulcan.

Maybe something that will be touched upon in STXII?

A giant space squid had attacked the mining colony on Laurenti IV, and they needed 50 or so starships to pry it off the planet. Those suckers have a hell of a tight grip, you know. :guffaw:

I was wondering the same thing - what was happening there must have been pretty damn important given they couldn't spare any ships for an entire planet issuing a distress call.

I think you might be on to something in terms of the sequel, Chaos, that would actually be pretty cool.

Mopping up after the Klingons lost 47 ships I assume. I'm still reading but I'm almost to that part of the novel (reading it before I go resee the film).

Rest of the fleet?

Correct me if I am wrong, but there are 6 Federation ships staffed totally by cadets sent off to Vulcan because the rest of the fleet is tied up in the Leonides? system....

Is the Federation at war? If so, with who...

Re: Rest of the fleet?

The ships are not staffed totally by cadets. I really don't understand why people insist on that.
