laugh at my silliness

this month's SFX has a TARDIS sound cover (it's one of those little chip thingy-whatsits you get in greetings cards that play a sound effect like applause or a bad impersonator taking off some TV star) and since it's only stuck in with some horrid gummy glue, i took it out.

stuck it on my book shelf and forgot about it friday.

yesterday, i was in my room getting my stuff together to go out and all of a sudden, i hear...

vworp vworp vworp*

(*sound of the TARDIS landing)

so, i look around wildly, thinking 'WTF?! What's the TARDIS doing landing in my house?!' before noticing the cardboard doodad with the chip in, which had suddenly, inexplicably popped up, triggering the chip.

i moved it and wedged it under a stack of DVDs so it won't go off again.

I posted the following story a few years ago but it still makes me laugh when I think about it.

I have the TARDIS dematerialising sound as the ringtone on my iPhone. I was sitting in my backyard (really just a small courtyard) and drinking my morning coffee whilst reading the Sunday newspaper. I had my phone next to me. My neighbour was in his yard playing with his kids. My phone started to ring but as it was from a private number I decided I wouldn't answer it. Anyway, it's ringing away playing the TARDIS sound when I hear my neighbour tell his kids to be quiet because he thought he heard the TARDIS. I was rolling on the floor laughing my ass off and then one of his kids said, "What's a TARBIS?" He just said, "Nevermind". I could tell that he was disappointted at missing his chance to meet the Doctor.

Two Christmases ago I got a pen that made all sorts of Who noises, including Dalek ones, I still don't know how it happened but once it went off when I was nowhere near ut. Luckily I think it was just the Tardis sound....if it'd been a Dalek saying "Exterminate!" I might have been more perterbed!

You guys over in the UK have all the fun. We get SFX magazine in Canada, but it seems to be a different edition - we never got the 3-D cover and I don't expect we'll get the sound chip version either. :(

That cover was brilliant wasn't. I picked my copy up in London and I was there with my Girlfriend getting all very excited.

I actually took it out as well and mine randomly started going over a few times in our hotel room, but I wasn't so silly to think it was actually the TARDIS. :p

I am laughing at your silliness and will treat you to some of my own. Several years ago a friend gave me a TARDIS model that starts making the materialisation drone when a mobile phone is about to go off. I was at a convention at the time. Sometime in the wee small hours of the night I was roused from my slumber by the bloody Tardis materialising in my bedroom!! Scared the living whatsit out of me!! I guess someone in the next room had just taken a phone call.

Ironically my SFX doesn't work.

I also have the mobile phone alert - it really has a mind of its own!
