Lastest trip to the DDS

Well, my poor rear molar that was yanked out is starting to get replaced:

I tighten my jaw in my sleep and have damaged all 8 molars--15 gold crowns on 8 teeth and 3 of them root-canaled. But now one was so damaged (2 cracks below the crown, 1 short, 1 the length of the root; and a hole in the side) that it had to be yanked out.

So that was a month or so ago. They put some bone-grafting stuff in to regrow the jaw right there and sutured it up.

Two words which should not be in the same sentence: "mouth" and "suture."

Yesterday, they gave me 5 shots of anesthetic (felt every one of them!) and drilled into my jaw to insert an implant as the anchor for a new crown. And more sutures.

Please try to avoid this ever happening to you. It wasn't painful because of al the meds, but drilling on a tooth and drilling into a jaw are two different things. And, I have a little mouth, so getting my upper teeth the hell away from that drill for 20 minutes was not easy at all.

Next week, they remove the sutures and let the bone grow around the implant for a few months. After that, it's just like a "regular" crown.

Back to "normal." No pain today, which is kinda surprising.

Oh, and this wasn't cheap (at least we just renewed the Flex Savings so with paycheck mumbo-jumbo, this'll be before taxes)--around $2500. Hubby had asked me if I really needed that tooth. Ha ha.

Posts like propita's remind me to be thankful never to have needed any major dental work apart from braces (& some associated pulled teeth) as a kid!
