Last Man standing - new sitcom starring Tim Allen

So this week Tim Allen (of Home Improvement and Santa Clause fame) returns to TV with a new show.

He plays a father in an all female (but for one toddler son) household who works in an outdoor store and is a real "guy's guy".

He has to survive each a tomboy, glamour and teenage mom daughter while wrestling with the notion that men and life has gone too soft these days.

Now having seen the first two episodes it isn't bad.. for someone who liked Home Improvement as basically he's the same character just without the accident magnet that Tim Taylor was.
He's still this man's man constantly fighting for men to remain "real men" and going on diatribes when he encounters some new age stuff he seems to abhor yet at the core he's a good, understanding and loving father and husband.

The show isn't breaking new ground but it's nice to see Tim Allen again basically reprising the role that made him famous (if with a few tweaks here and there).

I watched the first two episodes, mostly because I thought the concept was relatable since my father was the only guy in a house full of five females. It was a sitcom straight out of the 90s, which isn't a terrible thing I suppose, just don't expect anything groundbreaking. I doubt I'll watch it regularly, but it's the kind of show that is easy to have on in the background in reruns when you are doing something else.

I just watched the newest episode the guest starred both Patricia Richardson and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. The whole episode was a funny throwback to Home Improvement, although Patricia's character was renamed something else, clearly for copyright reasons (FOX owns LMS while Disney owns HI, but both aired on Disney-owned ABC). The layout for Patricia's house didn't quite remind me of the HI home, but the backyard with the fence was setup so that the camera operators were able to get many classic HI camera angles (plus the ABC station I was recording the episode from, on my cable system, gets cropped to full frame 4:3, so I wasn't seeing the episode in a letterbox version of the HD, so that helped with this episode). You even had the old neighbour-over-the-fence joke in the episode.

This is the first full LMS episode I've watched, so I may need to get the DVD's from Amazon to see the rest of the series.

Bravo on the 3+ year necro! I didn't even think threads from that long ago were still even postable. Oh, well. And here I thought I was going to necro a week old thread. :)

That was a funny episode, but don't expect the whole series to be like that. Kind of hit or miss. Although Tim, his boss and his tomboy daughter are consistently good.

Up here where I live the series seems to keep changing air times, so I before last week's episode Zi had only seen about 10 minutes of a show---but I had only started watching it at about 10 minutes into it, so I couldn't quite figure out what was going on, and switched out of boredom.

Yeah.. i laughed hard at the Home Improvement episode.

I don't look up spoilers of this show because it's not that high on my list but when he came into the backyard i immediately crossed my fingers and said Patricia Richardson and lo and behold.. it was her.

The episode was hilarious, more so because i'm a huge HI fan and got all the nods and references. The fence thing with the new neighbor substitutung for Wilson was also awesome (as well as the small music cues to HI).

I did a double take when Allen shot his own show down in jest when claiming that HI had better writers
