Last Classic Who Story you watched

Arc of Infinity is over. Michael Gough was good. Colin was very subdued (as the request of the director, I think I read?). Now on to Snakedance which I only remember not liking as a kid - or was that Kinda? I don't remember exactly, but I wasn't a fan of either I think.

don't think either Kinda or Snakedance are stories that would have appealed to younger audiences.

Snakedance was also the first tv role for Martin Clunes who would go on to do many many tv shows etc with better performances.

I wonder how much of a kick it was for Navy veteran Pertwee to make "Sea Devils"? They filmed on actual Royal Navy locations.

Jackets and coats seemed fine for everyone else. Looked out of place in a contemporary setting.

Military uniforms often maintain traditional elements after they've gone out of fashion elsewhere. It's possible that capes were still part of the uniform code at the time.

Besides, capes are cool. They've got class. I don't understand why people scoff at them.

My impression was the prison was civilian The guy in charge wore a business suit and just a pin to indicate his association.

Nothing wrong with a cape. Just an odd accessory for the time period. Looks more are home in one of Who's future settings

I am 1 episode in and have no memory of Snakedance [of watching it previously as a kid on PBS]. It's definitely Kinda that I didn't like as a kid. Probably the dream sequences Tegan had that did it in for me. Snakedance is... interesting so far I guess.

Well, the location used for the prison was a castle on the Isle of Wight. To me, "a castle on the Isle of Wight" sounds like a place where capes would be totally at home.

Finished Snakedance. I really don't have any memories of watching it on PBS. I must have forgotten to tape that week's eps or fallen asleep. It was better than i expected. I didn't really like Kinda, so more of the mara wasn't getting me excited. It pretty much turned into a normal serial after getting some evil Tegan scenes. But the mara was destroyed because the doctor didn't fear it? Meh... i guess?

On to Madrwyn Undead which i do have memories of watching on PBS as a kid. I remember being excited that the Brig was back, even if he was teaching at a school for some reason. Reading the behind the scenes notes, it does make sense that it was written for Ian.

During the 5th doctor's run, i never really connected with any of his companions. I was also missing Tom Baker, too. Even though his later stuff (e space trilogy for example) wasnt really that good. My PBS journey started in earnest with Spearhead from Space by coincidence, so I watched all of Pertwee's stuff and then watched all of Tom Baker's stuff. Both were really good, and i just didnt click with Davison's doctor originally - ironically, I really liked Caves of Androzani and then they killed him off lol. Upon watching 1 episode of The Twin Dilemma, I quit watching the weekly Doctor Who reruns. It was that bad.

The two Mara stories are very philosophical and metaphorical, rooted in Buddhist ideas. That makes them an acquired taste, I guess, but I respect them for trying to do something thoughtful and unconventional. I think it worked better in "Kinda," though, in part because "Snakedance" ended up being a more normal serial.

As for "Mawdryn," I was glad to see the Brig back, but I do wish they'd managed to get William Russell as intended. Maybe then we could've avoided the whole UNIT dating controversy.

Probably why (at this moment) I think Snakedance is better lol.

Finished Terminus. I have no recollection of this from when I was younger. Man that plot really didn't go anywhere, and Tegan and Turlough got nothing to do all serial. Those space helmets for the pirates though - WOW! - they were quite something. I quite liked the space pirate outfits - they were quite campy, and reminded me of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. The guard armor was disappointing, and looked like something you'd pick up at a Spirit Halloween store.

We'll see if Enlightenment triggers any memories. I do remember bits of The King's Demons and of course The Five Doctors coming up (which I've watched on DVD since I first saw it on PBS).

I vividly remember Nyssa shedding her clothes and running around in a flimsy slip for much of the serial. It made a strong impression on me as a teenager. A few years later, I got to meet Sarah Sutton at a convention, and when my turn in the autograph line came, I told her that I'd belatedly developed a crush on Nyssa in her last story just before she left, and as soon as I said it, I abashedly realized I should avoid telling her why I developed a crush on her while watching "Terminus" and not before. (Though she could probably guess. Apparently she later described her striptease in "Terminus" as a "gift" to her male fans.)
