Hell, DS9 is my second-favorite Trek and a good chunk of its Season 1 bores the heck out of me. Roddenberry and Berman Trek weren't always Hugo and Emmy material themselves.

Literally. People act as if TOS/TNG/DS9 was some amazing prestige high point for consistent television quality when it was pretty hit and miss. Not everything is good. A lot of it is so-so. Some of it is brilliant.

"Mr. Worf, fire!" sticks in the mind a lot more strongly than the sinking feeling you got when you realised it was another holodeck/Wesley/Lwaxana/Ferengi episode.
Yup. It's great fun but it's not high art. I think it can have good writing but that isn't always the case.Literally. People act as if TOS/TNG/DS9 was some amazing prestige high point for consistent television quality when it was pretty hit and miss.
