...which is in no way a shameless rip-off. Nope.

Guitars and drums included, all tracks are apparently cover versions (Activision on the other hand are saying Guitar Hero IV will have no covers) and there will be a DS version using the stylus.

Never heard of Guitar Freaks, huh? It was an arcade based game from 1999 where you used a plastic guitar to push buttons that corresponded to colored notes scrolling down the screen. Sound familiar?

If you want to talk about shameless rip-offs, look no farther then GH4 which will have a drum set and mic. They don't even have a pretense of pretending to innovate, they're just me-tooing Rock Band.

OK, I just looked at the song list (which is more important than who's ripping off who). Even though they're covers, I was hoping a good list would make me consider getting it. I think I threw up in my mouth a little. :(

Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects. Yuck.

Walk by Pantera looks like a good choice (not because I'm a huge Pantera fan, but because metal songs usually translate better in a game like this).

Yes, but would they be bothering now if Guitar Hero and Rock Band hadn't been such massive successes and Nintendo hadn't reinvigorated the market for casual games ?

I'm just saying that it's patently ridiculous to accuse a company of "shamelessly ripping off" a genre that, for the most part, it created.

Uh, dude. That is a rip-off. The people at Konami saw how well Rock Band and its ilk were doing, so they decided they could make a quick buck off of the rhythm-based game craze. Seriously, if you know anything about games, how can you not realize that this is a blatant rip-off?:wtf:

I've been corrected on that one.

i've got no problem with another company jumping in the rock band arena... i'd much prefer if all games adhere to one set of standard controllers. i dropped $170 once this gen... i dont plan on doing it again.

It's Konami's fault for not seriously doing the guitar thing in the United States. They sued Red Octane, but I have no idea how that turned out - most of the game press seems to have forgotten that lawsuit happened, unfortunately.

Anyhow, yeah, the biggest problem is that there are now three different drum standards. Also, Activision is barring all non-Red Octane guitars from their games (even though they are really badly designed) and Konami might potentially do the same... well, I'm sorry, but I refuse to buy more plastic junk.
It's really getting to the point where it makes more sense to just buy a real guitar or drum kit and learn to play yourself.
