Kobayashi Maru Preview & Cover Art

If it's just in the simulator then surely all the details she finds about the ship are from the simulator and are constructed for the purpose of the test.

Not "surely," just possibly. There's no reason a simulator couldn't use a real ship, in the same way that, say, flight simulators use recreations of real cities and airports rather than making up imaginary ones. My point was simply that the presence of data on the Kobayashi Maru in the simulator didn't prove it was real. But it doesn't prove it wasn't real either. It doesn't prove anything.

Yeah, sorry, poor choice of words on my part - I didn't mean it was necessarily made up, just that all the information is put there by the test creators.

the computer says "Subject vessel is third class Neutronic fuel carrier. Crew of 81. 300 passengers" accompanied by a page full of data.
The question of why a fuel carrier would be carrying passengers, was left unanswered. ;)

Don't you see... the fuel is People, it's People!

Why not have passengers aboard a tanker? The fuel is probably a sought-after commodity, so the ships hauling it can be trusted to be swift and on schedule... Plus the tickets will probably be cheaper. (But not necessarily: such services are a hit hereabouts, on the ro-ro ferries going across the Baltic - an opulently cool way to start your high budget family holiday, rather than a way for the poorest Interrailers to reach continental Europe.)

Then again, it would fit the bill here if the programmers of the simulation put some effort into specifically creating a damsel in distress who has two babies and a puppy under each arm and carries Mother Teresa on her shoulders. That part need not really have been realistic.

;)

(FWIW, the screen readout says "Registry: Amber, Tau Ceti IV", which I guess indicates that the ship is registered as having the city or port of Amber at or near planet Tau Ceti IV as her home.)

Well, I know one thing for sure: I am going to be crawling up the walls waiting for this to come out. I've read about 4 or 5 of the ENT novels in the last two weeks, and will have knocked the rest out very soon. :borg:

I definitely can't wait to see what happens next in Kobayashi maru it's going to be a long 4 month wait.
