The story for Kobayashi Maru has two parents. The first is my initial idea: A straight-up lampoon of Star Trek (sort of like a mature-audiences Futurama) that showed the world of Trek through the jaded eyes of smugglers living in the Neutral Zone. The second parent was a different story I had always wanted to tell: A return to Deep Space Nine centered on Jake Sisko, now an investigative journalist. Kobayashi Maru merges both of these ideas into a story that I hope will be entertaining.
Jake's character has morphed into Jj (Jay-juh), the son of "U-Fed's" greatest hero (and perhaps also its greatest traitor). Jj has been grounded on earth by the authorities for a story he has written... only no one will tell him why. His efforts to discover the truth force him to find a way to escape earth, which connects him with the motley crew of the Maru.
