Know Any "Just Like in that Movie!" Idiots?

Hiya, folks.

We had dinner tonight with friends, and it finally dawned on me why I want to beat them both to death after each visit: no matter what topic is brought up, they will always relate it to a tv show, movie, or commercial.

We get something along the lines of, "Oh, it's just like on 'The Simpsons!'" every time.

I mentioned people driving into lakes while using GPS, and the guy tells me about the episode of "The Office" where Michael Scott does that.

My wife told a story about our kids and our dogs chasing each other, and the woman says, "Oh, it's like in that one commercial."

What really got me was when we arrived: I was carrying flowers, and the guy pointed at me and said, "Just like in 'Doc Hollywood.'"

What the fuck? I'm carrying fucking flowers, and this twit has to relate that to a movie?

You cannot say the word "goose" around them, or you get a ten minute recitation of that piece of shit "Top Gun" movie. I once used the words "baby" and "corner" in a sentence, and it was time for a description of the last half of "Dirty Dancing."

Do any of you know nitwits like these, people who have to relate everything to a movie/tv show/commercial?

Or, God forbid, are you a nitwit like this? If so, for your own good, please stop it. People don't like you at all.

No, I do not know any people like your friends.

I have one friend who really loves movies and TV but even she doesn't relate movies to her life.

You sound just like that guy from Black Books.

you mean the love of my life?

My friends and I occasionally spout of funny movie quotes to each other, but that's about as far as it goes.

The only movie my sons and me regularly quote is Monty Python and the Holy Grail which we do quite often.

My best friend occasionally uses one quote from Life of Brain which is

" He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!"

You're too late. We're everywhere.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

But seriously, it's kind of hard not to relate something to some form of pop culture paradigm, especially among a learned, experienced and seasoned bunch such as us TrekBBSers. :)

Newtman Spiff bites off Miss Chicken's remaining legs.

The Princess Bride and Mel Brooks fans are on similar notice.

This reminds me of that episode of Flight of The Conchords where Jemaine kept comparing things to that movie Top Gun.

People don't like me at all. (but that has nothing to do with it) <---Seinfeld!

My husband often says that there is a Simpsons episode for every one of life's eventualities, but he doesn't go around commenting about it to people, unless they are fellow fans. A friend and I at work sometimes relate things to movies but not to the extent of your friends.
