Klingons and romulan alliance ?

Nero's Shadow

Captain
Captain
So did the Klingons and romulan make the alliance in the TOS era it makes sense after I watched the enterprise incident and yes romulans were using Klingon D7,s

So what other exchanges did the romulan and Klingons make apart from ship technology and the cloaking device technology . ? And also how long did it last

Hard to say how long it lasted since that was the Romulans' final appearance in TOS and I don't recall TAS saying anything about it.

TUC and TNG help a little. Geordi says in they've been "blood enemies for 75 years" in "Reunion".

So the alliance clearly fell apart just before TUC at the latest. That actually helps to serve TUC because why would the Klingons need Federation aid if they could depend on the Romulans? And why would the Romulan Ambassador be urging the Federation President to attack while the Klingons are still vulnerable, if they were still allies?

Maybe less of a alliance and more a trade and technology transfer agreement. It does seem that the klingons were doing a certain amount of shipyard construction for the Romulans. One Romulan planet and one Klingon planet adjacent to each other on opposite side of their common frontiers were selected as authorized trade ports. Hard to imagine either side allowing free access of the others freighters in their respective Empires.

I think starfleet would have had there hands full with the alliance the romulans and Klingons could have possible overrun federation space and earth colonys with there combined forces and fleets of both empires.

As the cloaking technology goes kirk had stolen the cloaking tech so the romulans would have had to design a new one that could not be detected by starfleet vessels and outposts. The Klingons would not possible know about the federation stealing the CT I don't think the romulans would have told them as romulans seem to be very sly and untrustworty ?

I think the romulans had a motive to get better ship technology and con the Klingons into thinking that the Klingons would have the upper hand. Also would romulan plasma weapon technology be better the
Klingon disruptors ?

I think the Klingons were using the Romulans to circumvent the Organian Peace Treaty.

Since in TSFS, the Federation and Klingons were negotiating a peace treaty, that means the Organian Peace Treaty must have been null and void by that point. Further proof of this is in TVH when the Klingon Ambassador said "There shall be no peace as long as Kirk lives!"

Something changed between TOS and TWOK/TSFS.

In addition to an exchange in technology during TOS, the Klingons got something they wanted out of the Romulans. I think eventually the Klingons became impatient with the Romulans because of the way they like to wait and find a way to be able to accuse the Federation of making the first move.

I doubt it went beyond that. My impression is that both sides looked upon it cautiously and with some mutual embarrassment. They both benefited from the exchange so they did it. It didn't take long though for their mutual loathing to win out. The only agreements after that were clandestine in nature.

Non-canonically, FASA had it as a formal alliance with technology being traded. The Klingons got some cloaks, plasma weapons (which they weren't fond of) and several minor hull designs were swapped between the powers, including the Romulan scout vessel which the Klingons "appropriated" and improved upon, something they weren't entitled to do under the alliance (but did anyway for political reasons). Cloaks were a relatively rare device in the FASA system due to power requirements, and I actually like that idea better than the more "canon" view that they're standard equipment on most ships.

Also, there was a recent Trek comic (Pawns of War) which expands on the idea of the alliance from both perspectives and includes a version of Balance of Terror, from the Romulan commander's perspective.

Just read them comics on my iPhone very good indeed liked how the used the U.S.S Yorktown as a test bed for the starfleet cloaking device .

I wished they would have done a episode of TOS with the Klingons and romulans trying to kill kirk and crew and the enterprise ?
