Klingon Honor Guard

When this game came out it looked like the bees knees. Star Trek in the unreal engine? It worked for The Fallen.

Thing is, The Fallen still looks great, esp if you crank the res up using today's hardcore video cards. KHG looks TERRIBLE. It's basically unplayable. It actually make me question my memories it looks so bad. How could I be so wrong? I'm sad.

Anyone had a good time with this number?

Unfortunately KHG was of its time, i remember when i first fired this game up on my 3DFX card.......so much eye candy......good game in its time but its time and moving technology have bot been good to some games.

I will tell you what though, if something liker Xbox live or the PSN were to release these games in the arcade section i for one would snap them all up....i would love to see all the old Trek games come out on some thing like that.

Hello,

Well for its time it was definitely fun, remember the only other Star Trek like 'shooter' was Star Trek Generations and because of some frustrating elements that wasn't always fun.

Of course its now old hat with the release of Elite Force 1 & 2 and DSN The Fallen.
Some games simply don't age well.

To bad Microprose never finished the First Contact game.

I always hated KHG - the gameplay was just terrible IMO - and the alien races you had to fight were quite dull. I think Elite Force (which still looks good) and The Fallen weer (a) much better games and (b) still look good!!! :)

I also remember trying to get KHG's AVI videos to play and having to email Microprose loads to get it to work - the video with the D7 "saucer" seperating was quite good!!! :)

I was an enormous fan of the original Elite Force but for some reason never picked up the sequel- is it worth a look, even after all this time?

Wow, my only memory of this game is that my PC at the time should have been able to play it, but instead after the install the whole system crashed and Widows got corrupted.

I'd say yes. It has some nice levels, and it's fun wandering around Starfleet Academy in the early portion.

For some reason it has notably higher requirements than EF1, even though both use the Quake 3 engine.

I always loved KHG.

Sure, it never looked as good as The Fallen or Elite Force.
But man, it was *fun*.

Because you know..the gore, violence and mayhem of a FPS doesn't really mesh well with the ST universe. So yeah, set it in the Klingon universe. And they did it well.
Some very nice touches and details that only serious fans would know and appreciate. Very true to the Klingon way. That effort makes it worthwhile, IMO. Graphics aside, the playability was good and fun. And the storyline wasn't too bad, either. A pretty good plot, even though not required to get to the shootin'.

I like KHG like I like my ST...flashy graphics are nice, but considered substance makes it good for me.

EF1 more-or-less used the stock Quake III engine, while EF2 included a slew of added tech and customizations that Ritual has developed over the years (and even licensed out to other companies).

To me, there was a noticeable improvement in EF2's appearance (curved corridors!), which made the system requirement changes plausible.

Sounds great- if it lagged on computers when it first came out, it should run smoothly now. I will keep an eye out for it.
