Well, I have been working on this model all afternoon.

This is as far as I got...

Still alot left to do, but it's starting to look like something. :) I'm using the orthographic views that showed up a few days ago... I have changed a few details though, just because I wanted to do something a little different.

Hopefully I can get this done soon.

:)

Thanks. :)

The only thing I don't like so far is the paneling on the wings... I may go ahead and make it more traditional...

:D *excited clapping* YAY! Can't wait to see her finished.

Oh, and here's some more detailed shots of the concept art off of John Eaves blog: http://johneaves.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/
Thanks for those. I've been using details from his drawings, and from the 3d model, as well as adding in my own stuff. :) In the Drawing, the neck seems to have almost no space for a walkway-hallway, unless it's very small, and slopes downward the whole way. :)

Alright, modeling is done! I'll start up on textures tomorrow...

I made the Nacelles a little "beefier" than on the drawings... I thought is was more primitive, so it would need larger ones.

Here's a backstory idea... In the new STXI time line, the Narada comes back in time and destroys a huge part of the Klingon fleet. As a result, the Empire has to build back up quickly, and chose the relatively cheap and simple D6 as the ship to mass produce. So, this ship, and not the D7, is what the Enterprise will encounter most of the time.

:)

This is incredible work. I look forward to seeing the final product. What software package are you using here? 3ds Max? Maya? Lightwave?

I especially like the pic I quoted above. That shot reminds me of the IKS Amar trying to escape V'Ger's wrath in TMP. That any any shot that makes a Klingon Warship look like a menacing bird swooping down on it's prey is liable to win favor in the Empire. :techman:

It is pretty awesome. He uses Blender i believe.
I tell people that and they never believe me until i point them to his website. heh heh

I'm using Blender, release 2.45 specifically. :) They goofed up some things in the later versions.

I like that shot too... I'm going to use it to make some posters with it. :)

I know... Blender doesn't have the best reputation, sometimes. :)

I've tried to learn a little of Maya, and Lightwave, but they don't feel right to me. I guess I've been using Blender too long.

Some updates... been texturing. I'm trying some new techniques when I make these things... in the past, I have built a brand new texture for every surface. This time, I made some "generic" ones, and re-used them, and changed around UV coordinates. It makes the texturing go much faster. :)

Got the "Head" Left, and then on to the lighting. :)

Well, if she's supposed to be in service for about 100 years, the old rust bucket look would make sense, and look very good if I may say so.

Well done, Madman.

Yeah, it was supposed to look rusty. :) Normally all of my ships are clean... this was a nice departure.
