Klingon Academy – Still playin’ it – Still lovin’ it!!!

That’s right. Out of all the Trek games this one has gotten the most use and is still very enjoyable. When I think about the abortions that are Trek games that have come out since 2000 this game makes them all worth it. When the future game makers want to make a real success they will need to take a close look at this game. And the dozens of MODS make this game much more that it is.

I can play everything from the Borg to Babylon 5 Shadow Cruisers. The game play feels a lot more real that Legacy or Bridge Commander. I also like the detail with which you can control your own ship as far as repair, medical, battle stance, shield strength. The sub-targeting is nice as well as is being able to capture enemy ships. Nothing like capturing your enemies ships and throwing them back in their face! HA HA!

Anyone agree?!

Yeah I've brought this game back out too. I remember buying it way back when it first got released, and was blown away by it then. I love the Lexington Class CC, probably one of my favorite Federation ships. I downloaded tons of mods for it, a Defiant which is basically unstoppable when you are in QB mode - which is fun to just go through and waste as many ships as you can. Really wish more Trek games were in this similar style, just a really great game with a lot of great mods for it. I have a hard time getting the game to be stable on my computer, but sometimes I can get a lot of enjoyment out of it - other times it will kick me back to the desktop.

I love targeting sub-systems and watching hulls get obliterated, that still hasn't lost its novelty to me even today. Or winning a battle only to find out your warp engines are blown off and you are stranded. Used to love knocking out peoples impulse drives then just picking away at their hulls, or sending marines to wreck havoc on the inside. Great game, and a lot of great memories of some MP matches I used to engage in.

I love KA, but Bridge Commander (with the Kobayashi Maru mod) is just as good. I say this because KA will not run on my system, and so I use BC. I've got screenshots and video of Bridge Commander in action (the other KA thread), and I have to say, as much as I love KA, Bridge Commander is far more immersive and flexible. Plus, BC plays on my system without so much as a hiccup.

I find the 6-CD thing rather frustrating, and it is riddled with bugs, but it's certainly a vast improvement on Starfleet Academy.

I can't stand Bridge Commander or Legacy, so it's my only choice for a Trek space sim.
