According to the article they are looking for prime universe specialists. If I was making a Star Trek series spanning multiple eras (if that rumor is true) the person I'd want in is you. Maybe you should just go and ask them to let you in ;-)
No, I'm afraid I don't have the temperament or the energy to handle a job like that. I could never maintain the pace of the work or handle the stress, and my few attempts to pitch to DS9 and VGR back in the day convinced me that I'm terrible at verbal pitching and that Hollywood isn't the environment for me. It'd be nice if they were open to the occasional freelance pitch, but a staff job is not for me. That's the article writer's own spin, not an actual statement from the producers. All it means is that Bryan Fuller, Nicholas Meyer, and Kirsten all have experience working on pre-2009 Trek fiction -- and it ignores that the senior executive producer, Alex Kurtzman, is a veteran of the Abrams movies instead. I'm sure that there will be other staffers who have never worked on Star Trek before, and indeed there should be, because Star Trek should always innovate and look to the future. And not only in terms of its own storytelling, but in terms of cultivating new talent. Look at how many of today's top producers began their careers on Star Trek staffs -- Ron Moore, Rene Echevarria, Naren Shankar, Brannon Braga, Bradley Thompson & David Weddle, Mike Sussman, Fuller himself, etc. A modern television writing staff is essentially a talent farm for future showrunners. So I expect that from this point, most or all of the remaining writing staffers to be announced will be relative newcomers. (And indeed, Kirsten is one of those newcomers as far as TV writing is concerned.) If I listed every rumor about new Star Trek shows over the decades that turned out to be untrue, we'd be here all day. Never believe rumors. If they're false, as the vast majority are, then it's a complete waste of mental energy to worry about them. And if they're true, then they'll be confirmed by some more reliable source later on, so you might as well just save your energy until you know for sure.
Jesse Alexander's twitter banner makes it look like he's working on the show. But there has been no announcement about him at all. It's worth remembering that not everyone will get an official announcement when they're hired. Companies don't publicly announce every HR move they make. Lower level writers and staff will likely be hired and start working without anyone other than their friends being aware until their name shows up on the credits of an episode. The only names we hear about are the big names and anyone CBS thinks will be good for PR(like Kirsten Beyer).
They have made some readers who didn't care about Voyager become more invested in the characters if that tells you anything
We'll probably see more staff announcements once the show is officially in production. I think the only reason Kirsten's involvement was announced at this point was because she had to withdraw from the Shore Leave convention due to her new commitment. It was Shore Leave that broke the news on May 29 on their site and Facebook page, and then TrekCore got confirmation from Kirsten on May 30, and TrekMovie and other sites picked it up from there. So it wasn't something CBS publicized. After all, most TV viewers have no awareness of the novels -- typically the tie-in novels for a TV or movie franchise are read by 1 to 2 percent of the overall audience. So this is a huge, huge step up in name recognition for Kirsten, and a well-deserved one (although I'll miss seeing her at Shore Leave).
Looking at the shows listed in his minibio on the side of the page, he definitely has a lot of history with Fuller so this could be a possibility.
Well considering he's the guy in the picture here that Fuller tweeted with the caption "HOW THE #STARTREK WRITERS ROOM DOES IT", I wouldn't consider it too much of a stretch...
It's possible, but the names are not that shocking or meaningful. Danny Fredericks is an assistant who works for Fuller. So if he's involved it will be in a similar capacity. Aaron Baiers is a VP at KO Paper Products reporting to Heather Kadin. I'm unclear how to Orci/Kurtzman split at KO worked out, but with Kadin involved, it's not surprising if Baiers is also involved at an executive level. Kadin we know Rodenberry we know Loretta Ramos is a co-producer on Hannibal and seems to be involved with American Gods, so it's possible he could be involved, or he could just be someone connected to Fuller the account is following.
Yes, you're right. I couldn't find a definitive answer, and her profile picture on twitter looked like a younger guy with long hair. But digger a bit deeper she's clearly a woman.
Her name is Loretta. How is that gender-ambiguous? Especially with a Hispanic surname, given that Spanish is a gendered language.
Christopher Norris and Michael Learned were decidedly NOT male. It's not like a male Loretta is an impossibility, especially with a photo that could be interpreted in different ways.
That was my first thought. But then the picture made me question it, and I didn't want to make an assumption based on the name.
