Kirk's "Death" on Ent-B

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
After Kirk was apparantley killed on the Enterprise B, how do you suppose the news was taken by other people within the Federation, Starfleet and other races?

I would assume that Starfleet would have a plaque made out to honour him at the HQ and the Academy and also there'd probably be a memorial in his name where all his family and friends and probably crew who served with him would've gathered. With the Klingons and the Romulans I'd have to assume that at least the majority of Klingons would honour him in there own way, maybe by making songs about him but I'd assume there'd be Klingons that would likely be glas that he's dead but at the same time feel that they missed out on the honour of facing him in combact themselves. With the Romulans, I''d assume they'd feel the same.

Any thoughts and has this ever been address in any novels?

Crewman47,

Don't recall if there was ever a scene in the Shatnerverse novels where Kirk sees his grave or memorial, but that would've been interesting. I assume Starfleet has its own version of Arlington, where U.S. servicemen are buried.

I think all of your ideas, Crewman 47, were right on the money. I also approved of how they showed Scotty and Chekov's reactions. No, they were not overly emotional. These men were professionals, so they wouldn't get emotional while on duty. Personally, I'd like to see the reactions of his original crew while they are in the privacy of their own quarters. I can only imagine how Spock and Bones would have taken the news. I think this could have been one of the most powerfully written/acted scenes in Trek history.

I'm surprised we haven't seen a USS James Kirk.

Or have we?

There is indeed a USS James Kirk. It's just that the ship's hull gets ripped at the first sign of trouble before it kicks some ass, and it spends its free time manually docking with vessels named after females.

The way Kirk dies doesn't bother me as much as for the fact the way Kirk was treated after he died doesn't make since. I assume the crew of the ENT-B held some sort of service after his death, but all Picard did was leave him on some alien planet instead of taking him back to Earth at least for a proper burial. Wouldn't you do that for one of Star Fleet's greatest hero's?? :wtf:

Well since nobody knew that Kirk returned from the nexus, Picard figured that he might as well take soul credit for saving the galaxy. After a simple matter of getting rid of the body, he was off to claim his glory.

I don't think Kirk would've been left on Veridian 3. Since Veridian 4 is a pre-industrial society, it would only be a matter of a couple of hundred years before they perhaps began a space race. Therefore, it is highly likely that the Federation would move his body so that an alien corpse isn't found.

But still I would have taken him back to Earth for a proper burial.

The Generations Novelisation had Sulu on the Excelsior receiving the news, and telling his crew. I'm not a great one for reading but I still remember a few of the lines so it made an impact.

Personally I wonder if anyone would believe him if he did tell them about meeting Kirk!

Dr Soran destroying stars, Klingons attacking the Enterprise, Warp Core breach & Saucer crashing on a planet. Oh and Picard met one of his predecessors. Yeah right...

I hope so.. And after..

wonder how the autopsy went? hope he didnt loose an eye...
