Kira/Kirk

Vandervecken

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Deliberate spelling/nameplay? Or accident? Opinions, knowledge? She is a little Kirkish, isn't she? Woman of action, always needing to do something. Leans to violence as default, short-term solution.

Ben Sisko reminded me far more of Kirk, because Avery Brook's acting is just as atrocious as William Shatners. I've never compared Kira to Kirk, watching DS9. Although, I did feel that her name was too girly for her. Greta, or something maybe.

I mean no offense, but this seems kind of foolish.
Sometimes there are homages in names. Just wondering if anyone thought there might be something deliberate here. Speculation along these lines (that the writers did it deliberately) is no more foolish than, say agonizing about a pixel difference in playback formats, noticing a plaque in McCoy's sickbay, or knowing the combination to Kirk's safe. Or wearing Spock ears to a convention.

Gods yes Brooks was so Johnny One-Note.

... Dude!!! Do you know who this guy is? He's from Ice Pirates where his spaceship has Space Herpies ...

Whomever illustrated this did the woman pictured an incredible disservice. Whomever she was, back in the day, she was jaw-dropping. But this is what I know Hawk's buddy from, actually.

That's Denise Crosby's aunt, Mary Crosby, only daughter from Bing Crosby's second marriage to the harpy, Kathryn, who tried to have all Bing's kids from his first wife disowned, and hates Denise with a passion(Kathryn does, I think Mary and Denise are at least cordial to one another).

Kirk and Kira would definitely respect each other. They are kindred spirits, in a way: tough, fearless warriors who'd do anything for their crew and their friends.

Indeed, Kirk and Kira would grow to BE the best of friends. I can definitely see them on the galaxy's greatest pub crawl, swapping stories - Kirk regaling Kira with tales of swashbuckling 23rd-century Starfleet, and Kira doing the same for Kirk with stories of fighting in the Bajoran resistance.

But as for deliberate name-play? I'd have to say no. In the original outline for DS9, remember that the character who eventually became Kira was supposed to be Ro Laren; Michelle Forbes didn't want to commit to a weekly series, so Kira was created to replace Ro. So there's no deliberate in-joke there ("Kira" vs. "Kirk").

Yep! They kinda made him look like Robert Downey, Jr. In that pic. Didn't she play a Cardassian in DS9?

Plus, she shot JR!

I think Star Trek writers just like K's: Kirk, Kodos, Khan, Klingons . . .. :)
I always thought they had a thing for "J's" (especially when it comes to the lead):
James T. Kirk
Jean-Luc Picard
Sisko's wife and son were Jennifer and Jake
Kathryn Janeway
Jonathan Archer
