Kill them all. Or marry them off.

What's the end of our great heroes look like? Say you had to produce the movie in which they're set out to pasture - how'd you do it?

Kirk in the Shatnerverse marries a sexy hybrid of his two great enemies and burns his ship (the A) to save her.

Because it's late I'm going to create a hackneyed end for Captain Sulu and the Excelsior. The ship plunges at maximum warp in a kamikaze run into a sun obliterating it and stopping a war. Maybe against the Talarians, Tzenkethy, Tholians, Jarada, or Gorn.

Less seriously, Seven dumps Chakotay and gets it on with Kim. Often. And on different planets, in different positions, and in different possibile states of existence. The two have a unicomplex of kids sprinkled throughout the Local Arm and retire to a starship set for the great Amoure Wormhole that leads to a maddeningly intimate other dimension.

I think James Kirk would have settled back at home and do outdoors recreations most of the time, if you want what normal people would do. I'm not sure what Kirk love to do for himself in his spare time, but I'd imagine he would be too old to get married.

Picard would enjoy studying all the ancient ruins, classical music and read a lot of books.

I don't know about Janeway... Maybe she'd like to breed dogs and perhaps become a dog whisperer. Or, maybe she's just too self absorbed and instead still involve herself with her original career.

Sisko, of course, I see him opening a restaurant of his own, go fishing, and visiting other cultures to sampel their food and experience their customs and traditions. I can relate to Sisko a lot. What more can you ask for? I love cooking and I love learning about other culutres and sample their food! A lot of people will tell you...I make some of the best shrimp and papaya, spicy, sour soup. I'm not kidding! Even my mom makes me make it for her because she can't seem to get the right amount of saltiness, sour ans sweetness, and she is an excellent cook. I try to emulate the flavor that my grandma used to make. And, I'm the best in the family when it comes to BBQ. The dish I make all taste like professional's dishes. I was one of the fastest hamburger maker, dish washer and broiler cleaner when I was working at Burger King. All the hamburgers that I made are perfect.

Picard becomes an Ambassador.

Sisko pilots the Defiant into the Cube of the Borg Queen.

Kirk gets a harem for himself and plays an advisory role for Starfleet.

Janeway gets a job with the DTI, it would fit her cold personality.

As is the tradition of old war movies and naming pairs of pets, it often amounts to the same thing.

One's probably going to die and leave the other broken hearted.

I try to avoid both those options and go for a third.

Let them live in sin instead. Until they're pretty sure it's going to last.

It is 2493 and we're on the eve of the 25th Century...

AMBASSADOR SPOCK: For several years, believed to have died during a red-matter detonation near the Hobus supernova. Evidence later provided by the Romulan Prateor on the eve of their Empire joining the Federation, suggested that he may have survived. But somehow stranded in another universe.

JEAN-LUC PICARD: Admiral. Eventually succeeded as Captain of the Enterprise-E. Teaches history and archeology at Starfleet Academy. Sent along with the Enterprise-E on a vital mission to the new Romulan Homeword, to negotiate with dissidents holding survivors from the late starship Titan. Successfully defended in a manufactured trial to discredit and bring down the Federation itself.

BEVERLY CRUSHER: High ranking position at Starfleet Medical. Picard's loving partner. She never remarried. She lives with Picard near Starfleet Campus in San Francisco.

WILLIAM T. RIKER: Formerly Captain of the Titan. Became acting Captain of the Enterprise-E, during the 2493 Romulan incident, once he and surviving members of her crew were released as hostages.

DEANNA TROI: Career paths caused the marriage some strain. She took an assignment as Betazoid Ambassador to Earth, following her Mother's passing. Manages to join U.S.S. Enterprise-E during her mission into Romulan space, in hopes of finding out what has become of Will Riker and her former collegues on the Titan.

DATA: Still B-4 but more evolved now and no longer Special Needs. Joined Starfleet Academy and completed training faster than anyone in its history. Decided to stay and train future Cadets himself. Often seen alongside with Picard, moulding the future officers of Starfleet. Excelerated his aging program and went with grey hair and unnaturally blue coloured eyes. Sometimes nicknamed "The Professor" by those unfortunate enough to find themselves in his class.

GEORDI LaFORGE: Captain of the Galaxy Glass U.S.S. Challenger. Currently in the Gamma Quadrant, protecting other Starfleet scientific vessels while they provide aid in the aftermath of a disaster affecting former Dominion races.

WORF: A Governor within a Klingon Empire. Lots of political influence and tipped to be Chancellor someday.

MILES O'BRIEN: Teaches at Starfleet Academy. Got seconded to the Enterprise-E, when Admiral Picard wanted an experienced Engineer running her. He apparently convinced him to come along using that line about their mutal interest in "building model ships".

GENERAL KIRA: Still running Deep Space 9. Her voice heard when the Enterprise-E arrives.

QUARK: Still running the bar. When O'Brien visited during a recent mission, he helped provide valuable information that went onto prevent a war.

TUVOK: Seconded to be the Enterprise-E's Security officer and instrumental in her mission to make peace with the Romulans.

THE DOCTOR: EMH was visiting with Tuvok when he was also drafted by Admiral Picard.

JONATHAN ARCHER: Later became an Ambassador to Andoria and Federation President. Instrumental in ending the Earth-Romulan War and founding the Federation. A revered and honoured man, until some evidence surfaced in 2493 and which was at the heart of a trial, manufactured by Romulan dissidents to sway the opinion of the New Senate, from incorporating peacefully into the Federation.

SHRAN: Revealed to be still alive in the late 24th Century. Residing in the Gamma Quadrant. Briefly served onboard the NX-01, as the first participant in a coalition exchange program. Was assumed to have died during the Romulan War of 2156-2160. Provides essential testimony that causes a trial to collapse, defending the Federation's reputation and humanity's motives in her founding.

Probably nothing to do with this film idea... just my fantasy opening for the 5th season of Star Trek: Enterprise.

CHARLES TUCKER III: Dead by 2493 clearly. But not as seen in holodeck recreation from "These are the Voyages, Part I".
Season 5 of Enterprise opened with the shock revelation the TNG era scenes had not even been set in the Prime Universe. Particularly evident in that depiction of a Coalition being founded in 2161, no indication that the Earth-Romulan War had occured in this timeline at all, plus outside the holodeck - subtle differences in the NCC 1701-D and her crew, which became much more pronouced in Part II. This episode also revealed Future Guy's motivation and identity, from the future of this "alternate Pegasus" timeline - who goes on to meddle with our history of the 22nd Century, providing stealth technology to the Suliban and eventually trying to do the same with his own people in the past - until Archer stopped him.

I hate wrapping characters up, so i'd give all of them a "All Good Things" style ending.

"And they all lived happily ever after" is an underrated literary motif.

Plus Star Trek has long since proven incapable of providing worthy death scenes. At least where beloved characters are concerned. Villains get a great deal. So do recurring players. The last main player I found moving was Kirk's. Who let's face it, died twice. Although I'm in slim company with that one for sure. Especially when it comes to it being worthy. So for most fans we're looking at Spock's, which had an inbuilt loose thread, in case it needed to be reversed anyway... and it was.

I guess it goes someway to explaining my love send-offs like Star Trek VI and TNG's "All Good Things...". You want to see the possibility of death look unavoidable and then, see those odds beaten. For the sword of Damocles to dangle over various crews for a time. For it slip and set off on a deadly trajectory, only for the aim to be spoiled in any number of surprising ways.

Id have had Kirk die on the bridge of the Enterprise during battle, buying time for everyone to transport to safetly and possibly saving the Earth, the Galaxy and the space-time continuum. Last shot him smiling just before the bridge explodes.

Trek is usually more nuanced than that, but screw it, Kirk deserves a guns blazing kind of send off.

I do quite like the idea of him just taking off for parts unknown, though.

Kirk should always have been left out of the 24th Century Star Trek productions. His status should have been left ambiguous, even to the characters. Apart from maybe a couple of mentions and references from Scotty and Spock in the appearances they made, it should have been left as open ended and unmentioned as Sulu, Chekov and Uhura.

Generations could have worked without Kirk's involvement. It should have been a movie about the El-Aurians and Picard dealing with Soran. Whilst Kirk being killed off in GEN was fitting to his character, the manner in which it occured was pretty lame. I think that overall, Kirk being killed off hurt an already medicore movie and if it included none of TOS characters in it, the movie would have been a success (taking out Kirk and what not gives more space to fill and greater parts to write for Soran, etc).

This way Kirk could have returned for Star Trek 09, going back in time with Spock as they attempt to stop the Hobus Supernova. Can you imagine the awesomeness of having NuKirk encounter both Kirk and Spock in the Delta Vega cave?

No, I hate "they all lived happily ever after" even more. I prefer "life goes on" endings. Maybe Picard lives happily ever after and maybe Geordi, after a painful divorce, becomes a raging alcoholic and commits suicide. The characters continue to live life, whatever that may entail, beyond the confines of the television screen.

TOS:
  • KIRK: Unknown: rather than being killed in the Nexus incident, he is pulled into the Nexus a second time, sacrificing himself to stop Soran and to prevent the destruction of the Veridian System
  • SPOCK: Residing in an alternate universe.
  • McCOY: After many years as Admiral of Starfleet Medical, he passes away after a long, distinguished career.
  • SCOTTY: Retires in the 24th century, but consults with Starfleet Engineering.
  • UHURA: Promoted to Commander and becomes a communications instructor at the Starfleet academy
  • SULU: Has a long career as captain of the Excelsior, with a legacy rivaling that of Captain Kirk. Eventually makes Admiral.
  • CHEKOV: Following the Enterprise B launch, retires after a 20 year career, to spend time with his family. Like Sulu, it is revealed he had married sometime after TMP, and had a family, which he spent time away from.
TNG:
  • PICARD: Captains the Enterprise-E for another 7 years. Picard reconnects with Beverly Crusher, after her 5 year captaincy of the USS Pasteur, and both start a romantic relationship. Picard, in order to spend time with Beverly, accepts promotion to Admiral at Starfleet strategic operations on Earth. With Picard heading up Starfleet Strategic operations and Beverly heading up Starfleet medical, both marry and reside on Earth, at Chateau Picard, Picard's family winery. After only spending a year as Admiral, and dissatisfied with his job as Admiral, Picard retires as Admiral, but goes onto serve as one of the Federation's most celebrated Ambassadors for 13 years. After exhibiting early stages of Irumodic Syndrome, Picard goes into semi-retirement as Ambassador, but retains the title Ambassador-at-Large, advising other ambassadors on negotiations. Picard also spends much of his time with his family, tending his wine fields, and as an amateur archeologist, in order to keep his mind active, which, along with treatments, greatly slow the advance of the Irumodic syndrome. The disease slowly affects Picard over time, but it is many years before he finally succumbs to the disease, and not before he sees his son Rene Picard, graduate starfleet academy and begin his career with distinction, and follow in his father's footsteps.
  • BEVERLY: Takes position at Starfleet Medical for a year. Then goes onto command the USS Pasteur for 5 years, and returns to starfleet medical as its head. She reconnects with Picard, and they start a relationship, and ultimately marry. Beverly, through the assistance of 24th century technology, becomes pregnant with Picard's son, Rene. Beverly, transfers to a reserve status in Starfleet Medical, becoming a part time Professor to raise her son with Picard. Both have a long happy marriage, until Picards death in the early 2420s
  • RIKER: Captain of the Titan for 19 years, serving with great distinction. Riker is offered Admiral 3 times during his captaincy, and like the Captain's chair, finally accepts the Admiralty, after being told he would never be offered it again, if he declined. Riker serves as one of the greatest Admirals of the early 25th century, and in his waning years as Admiral, is transferred to command a sector, which includes the BetaZed system. Having always regretted missing out on commanding the Enterprise D or E, and while an excellent Admiral, he sometimes missed his days as captain of the Titan, and First Officer of the Enterprise D and E. When the USS Galaxy was heavily damaged during a mission and having its captain, first officer, and 2/3s of its crew killed in action, the Galaxy was slated for decommissioning. Riker, upon hearing this, used his influence, personally overseeing the reconstruction and refit of the USS Galaxy, ensuring it was rebuilt from the ground up, and adding a third nacelle, as with the Enterprise in "All good things." Using a little known clause which allowed Admirals to serve as Commodores, assumed command of the USS Galaxy as his personal flagship of his sector for special diplomatic missions as well as a defense ship assigned to the BetaZed system, where he resides with his wife and family, Deanna Troi.
  • TROI: Counselor of the Titan and stays by Riker's side. She is a valued adviser to Riker, and becomes pregnant with twins: a boy and a girl. Once Riker is promoted to Admiral and is given command of a sector including BetaZed, she succeeds her mother as Ambassador of Betazed, as well as in the ceremonial role of daughter of the fifth house of Betazed, the Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, and Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed.
  • DATA: His personality surfaces in B-4, and the Data personality more and more becomes the dominant one. Forced with an ethical dilemma in that he does not want to "kill" his brother B4's personality by supplanting it, he asks Geordi to assist with the construction of a new body. Geordi and B4\Data take a leave of absence and go to the Daystrom institute. Although they are able to reconstruct a body, they are unable to duplicate the positronic brain of Data that Soong constructed, as his knowledge died with him, and they cannot disassemble B4's brain and backwards engineer it without killing B4\Data. With the positronic brain of Data\B4 starting to fail due to both personalities occupying it, the Daystrom institute hastily transfers Data's consciousness to a holo suite in order to save B4 at Data's request. Hearing of this, Barclay, Scotty, Miles Obrien, the Doctor, and Seven of Nine, join Data and Geordi at the Daystrom institute, and using the Doctor's portable holo emitter as a template, work together create another holo emitter, and transfer Data's consciousness to it. Data, now a sentient hologram, returns to active duty. Data eventually goes on to suceed Picard as captain of the Enterprise-E for 24 years.
  • LaFORGE: Promoted to Commander and serves as Chief Engineer of the Enterprise E during the rest of Picard's captaincy. Assists B4\Data with transferring Data's personality to a new holographic body, and eventually becomes Captain of the Galaxy class USS Challenger. Geordi does reconnect with Aquiel Uhnari years later when she is coincidentally posted to the Challenger, and they eventually marry and have several children.
  • WORF: Serves aboard the Enterprise-E as second officer, until the first officer, CMDR Madden is killed on an away mission, where Worf becomes first officer. Worf serves at Picard's side the remainder of Picard's Captaincy of the Enterprise E. With the end of Picard's captaincy, Worf is again recalled by Chancellor Martok to help quell a coupe attempt, and as a reward, granted a governorship of a nearby Klingon world, second only to Q'on'os in importance in the Klingon Empire, and is also Martok's top adviser, and is granted his own house, the House of Worf. As a result, Worf retires from Starfleet, but due to his new found status in the Klingon Empire, serves as is an unofficial ambassador to the Federation, where he visits his adopted family and friends semi regularly.

Does anyone else just kind of believe what they want anyway?

I find if a story is badly told it just doesnt connect with me; I cant just force myself to believe it. I dont think of Data being dead, just as I dont think of Darth Vader building Threepio, or the whole trek canon being changed by Nero.

Kirk: Died on Veridian III.
Spock: Lost in the Alternate Universe. He helped to settle New Vulcan, though died a short time afterwards.
Scotty: Consulted for the SCE for many years, before finally retiring and settling in Edinburgh until he died of old age.
McCoy: After being Director of Starfleet Medical for many years he then went on to teach. He died at the ripe old age of 156.
Sulu: Commanded the Excelsior until 2309, when he was killed in action saving his ship, the entire Beta Rigel system and billions of lives.
Uhura: Promoted to Captain and commanded the Intrepid until the early 2320s, when she was promoted to the admiralty. She was Commander-in-Chief in the mid 2340s, before she retired and settled into the life of a writer on Aldebaran.
Chekov: Promoted to Captain and commanded the Tempest until 2331. He then retired from active duty and went into teaching.

Picard: Commanded the Enterprise-E until 2385, when he retired from Starfleet and joined the Diplomatic Corps as an Ambassador. He would serve in the position until 2402 when he retired and returned to France to take charge of the family's vineyard.
Riker: Commanded the Titan until 2387, when the ship was destroyed stopping the Breen fleet of "planet killers".
Troi: Died in 2387 onboard the Titan, during the Breen invasion.
Crusher: In charge of Starfleet Medical's Department of Xenobiology until 2384, when she was promoted to Captain and assumed command of the Pasteur. She remained aboard until 2400 when she retired and went out to help settle a new colony (like her grandmother).
Data: Died in 2379.
La Forge: Promoted to First Officer in 2379 and then Captain of the Enterprise-E in 2385. After the ship was lost in the Breen invasion he assumed command of the Challenger. He never married.
Worf: Remained in Starfleet following his tenure as Ambassador on Qo'noS, serving onboard the Enterprise-E. Promoted to First Officer in 2385 but was killed two years later when the ship was lost.

B. Sisko: Remained with the Prophets. Reports of him returning to help Bajor during numerous dark times were circulated, though never proven. He is still on file as MIA.
Kira: Became a Starfleet Captain and CO of DS9. She would marry and have children, but remained on the station until it was decommissioned in 2390. She then made her home on Bajor.
Bashir: Married Ezri in 2378 and remained on DS9 until 2384, when he was offered the post of Chief Medical Officer onboard the Pasteur under Captain Crusher, which he accepted. In 2397 he took up a senior research position at Stafleet Medical.
