When talking about the TNG movies, it seems like fans often complain about certain characters being downplayed or not having enough to do. My theory is that the main cast was just too big to do them all justice in the limited timeframe of a movie. So, purely as an academic exercise, and ignoring the huge outcry there would have been if any character had been dropped - let's drop some characters from the movie cast.

Dr. Crusher is my #1 pick -- her role in Generations was nearly a cameo, and while she had more to do in First Contact and Insurrection, meaty stuff that could have gone to her in those films instead went to the guest star women. As many have pointed out here time and again, it should have been Beverly telling off Picard in the observation lounge. You'd think that their years of friendship and will-they-or-won't-they would have made her the one to cut through his blind rage instead of some random woman from 300 years ago who he just met yesterday.

It would be hilarious if Picard was voted off the island.

On a given day, you could argue for any of the characters to stay or go.
I picked Crusher and Geordi because I find them both dull, and they don't do much in the movies that couldn't be done by a one-line extra.
Riker is a more controversial pick, but he's always competing with Picard for leading-man status, and this movie ain't big enough for the two of us! I would promote Worf into Riker's position, which would give the warrior a bigger piece of the action. He would be Picard's 'attack dog'.

I wouldn't kill them off. Except Picard because Stewart probably would have liked that.
I ummed and Ahed over whether to vote Data...except I think he can work more in an ensemble without having to be a central character, despite his later dominance.
The reality is Picard was too central in the films, and story decisions made around either the character or actor were not the best ones made. So...he can go out versus Soran in generations, or the Queen in First Contact.
Worf has enough to do on Ds9 and it was getting a bit howling mad Murdock prison break in the later films.
Janeway moved the plot forward more in nemesis than some of the Tng crew. And I in the corner of thinking the guest ladies for Picard's benefit were just a terrible idea with Crusher right there. Bad bad writing. 'we are worried we won't be able to treat our ensemble cast of characters with enough weight in a film setting...so every damn film will introduce more characters, and help the Captain ignore the relationship we have built on and off for 7 years...gates who? This isn't Sg1! Find me my copy of De Sade!' -said Braga in an interview on the 32nd of Juvember 1994.

I'd have like if they Sulued of Riker to another ship that maybe could have showed up or even had it's own movie. He could have took Troi and Geordie could have been his XO.

This was my absolute least part of this movie, I didn't like Lilly at all and found her totally unconvincing and a bad Guinan substitute, and I hate Guinan.

I suppose there is a hint of the guidance in there.
She felt like a hug over from other time travel sci-fi...she gets the 24th century explained to her as if she's an audience viewpoint figure, except the audience is more familiar with the 24th and so it serves no purpose. She didnt serve as a viewpoint to her own time, no one did, and I just wonder why she was there. She does nothing of any purpose except the potentially uncomfortable 'make the white captain have a realisation' scene that should have gone to Crusher. Oh...and dance in a dress so Stewart could talk about the characters romantic side.

She seems like an overhang from an earlier script or idea, and you could use her screen time to expand the role of the regulars or even the other new introductions like Hawk and raggedy floppy hair security chief. In fact who was Worfs replacement anyway? Sucks to be him.

And yet Crusher has got the most votes. Whoda thunk it?

I think it's because she had the least to do in the films, and possibly less of a fanbase to start with. That you can edit her totally out of the films and not notice anything major, basically means a vote for Crusher is a vote for no change. The same is borderline true for Geordi

I voted for Crusher even though I neglected to mention her in my post above.

Sadly, of the 4 I voted, she is the one I would have wanted gone the least, but I can't remember a thing she did in 4 movies except, I hate to post this, she talked about her boobs. Yes, that one stupid line in the worst movie of the 4 (possibly) and that's what I remember even though I've seen Generations and First Contact many times and Insurrection only once. At least she didn't have her Granny's candle with her in the movies.

Only in the deleted scenes...she was that bored.
Her job in first contact was to introduce Robert Picardos cameo and inform people who the captain was. Insurrection was all about the firm bosoms. Nemesis she got to look pale and talk about the captains past and some medical stuff at least. I think generations was basically getting wet and evacuating sickbay. She evacuated sickbay in 50 percent of her film adventures basically.

That's easy.

I'd lose Worf, because he's only relevant in those Klingon outcast honor soap stories.
Troi, because she's hot enough for tv but not for movies.
Geordi, because anyone or the computer can announce an imminent antimatter containment field failure.
Riker, because he's an asshole.

Keep the Captain, the superintelligent emotionless character and the doctor. This being Star Trek, you can't go wrong.

The doctor who has known the captain longer than anyone at that.

I don't know if they ever identified who the tactical officer was in FC, but in INS it was Lt. Daniels, the previously nameless guy who reports that the Borg are on the move after Picard and Worf return from the deflector dish.
