Kick-Ass

Broccoli

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I saw a preview from the upcoming movie Kick-Ass today at the Chicago Comic Con. It is directed by Mathew Vaughn and based on the comic by Mark Millar. I have to say, just from the 15 minutes of clips I saw, this movie is so intentionally over-the-top with violence to such a humorous effect that people are either going to love it or hate it. There will be very little in between.

There is a lot of, "Wow...I can't believe they did that."

I am personally unfamiliar with the original comic, but the clips made me more interested in it. I might have to seek it out.

Sounds like the movie will be a lot less serious than the comic, which has a gritty realism to it thanks to the artwork of the amazingly talented John Romita Jr. I'm generally a fan of Millar, though, and I really liked Vaughn's Layer Cake, so I'll probably end up watching Kick-Ass.

You live in the Chicago area? Never knew that.

I wanted to go to this year's Wizard World (have they re-named it Comic-Con now...?) but nothing really appealed to me much, unlike last year when they had the cast & crew and revealed exclusive footage for The Dark Knight. However, I'm a big fan of Matthew Vaughn (director of Layer Cake, possibly my favorite gangster film) so I'm interested to check this out. A bit surprised this hasn't secured distribution yet.

I don't know how serious the original comic is considering there is a 10 year old girl who lops off limbs of people and curses like a sailor.

Also, the movie is going to lose serious points no matter what considering McLovin is in it.

Yes, they are renaming it Chicago Comic Con for, apparently, many reasons, one of which them wanting to tie it into the popularity of San Diego (even though it has nothing to do with it).

But, yes this year's programming seems a bit lackluster compared to last year's. Also, DC and Marvel don't really have a presence this year, which blows.

unlike last year when they had the cast & crew and revealed exclusive footage for The Dark Knight.
Um...they didn't have that last year. They did show an exclusive early showing of Gotham Knight, the animated tie-in. The crew for the tie in was there.

According to Millar, they should be getting a distribution partner sometime this week, and that all, but one, have expressed interest (this being Millar, who knows how true this actually is).

In the beginning, no studio wanted to touch the project, due to the content, language, and the fact that there is a 10 year old girl assassin. So, Vaugn financed it himself (by raising funds and whatnot).

I'm really looking forward to seeing Kick-Ass. Have read bits and pieces of the comic which is intense as fuck! Nic Cage playing Big Daddy has me meh but maybe he'll be good!

Re: Broccoli

I was mistaken. I meant Wizard Wor-- erm, I mean to say Chicago Comic-Con 2007. Hard to believe it's been two years.
