If there is a technology in Trek (tech the tech, babble the babbke) that would keep dogs as puppies instead of allowing them to grow up. Would it be unethical to use it?
There is also the admiral from Too Short a Season and thats about it.It's probably more a case of Trek ethics. There are plenty of eternal life and eternal youth techniques available in Trek, but people apparently choose not to use them. Save for weirdos such as Dr. Giger in "In the Cards"...
Larry Niven uses such technology as "local color" in some of his Known Space short stories; parents choose to keep their children as children for decades just for the heck of it and so forth. Then again, Niven goes for "Huh?" applications of technology overall, to great dramatic effect, even without making those the centerpoint of his story.
