Karl Urban in talks for McCoy

Not exactly good news for the Gary Sinise crowd, but hey.

This is the only casting so far where I've gone, "uumm... I dunno..." Can someone like this play an ol' southern doctor-type? He certainly doesn't look the part but I've found I'm starting to get over that whole "want/need" for the actor to look like the original.

The only thing I've seen him in is LOTR as Eomer. :vulcan:

I think they've more than filled the look-alike bill with the peripheral casting... and Quinto is a pretty close match for the extremely unique face of Leonard Nimoy, which is necessary for the Quinto/Nimoy pairing to be believeable. I'm willing to give 'em a pass on Kirk and McCoy as long as the actors can fill the bill performance-wise... which remains to be seen and will so for more than a year...

Wow.

I don't see it. I've only seen this guy in BOURNE SUPREMACY, CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK and LOTR. He seems capable enough, but so do hundreds of others.

What does he have that makes this a great pick?

I love Sinise, but I didn't figure they'd go that direction, but this doesn't feel as doable as the other cast members so far. To me, anyway.

No, he doesn't have to "look" like Kelley, per se. So I'm open enough to the possibility, but I have to say, my first impression:

Skeptical. ;)

I bloody hope not. I'm sure he's an able actor from what I've seen from LOTR, but I can't see him playing our favorite country doctor.

I guess they can only draw from what's currently out there in Hollywood and of a certain age. They just don't make 'em like they used to...

He seriously reminds me of Brad Pitt for some reason. Consider me another skeptic, but maybe it'll sink in.

Ech. Not a fan of this idea.

Still, I've been pretty happy about the casting so far (and the rumored Kirk possibilities don't seem awful) - the only one I can't see is that comic guy as Scotty, who needs to be a BIG guy, but whatever...I don't expect to love all the recasting, if they can get it as right with Kirk as they did with Spock, that's the main thing.

Karl is a good fellow, but I still await my casting call JJ. Who else is as grumpy and humanistic?

I will not pedal flesh!

This was reported, what, a week ago?

It was reported that Karl Urban was possibly involved with the project, but not that he was in the running for McCoy. A lot of people thought he might be the villian.

This is the first possible casting choice so far that has really made me pause. I'm really having a hard time wrapping my head around Urban being McCoy, but I'm willing to try and give them the benefit of a doubt.

Someone over on Trek movie said this guy in the link below worked on Mission Impossible 3 with Abrahms. Hard to imagine why he isn't the one in negotiations rather than this Urban guy. This other guy is so McCoy at a younger age it's scary. Check him out over on you tube.

^ Ok seriously, after watching that video, I've officially jumped on the Karl Urban bandwagon. Ladies gentlemen, we've found our new McCoy!
