Doctor Who News Page is reporting that UK viewers will be getting a double-dose of the Whoniverse on their Saturdays, as Disney XD has announced the K-9 spin-off series is set to air Saturday afternoons, just before Doctor Who on the BBC, starting April 3, same say as Eleventh Hour. (Looks like the first broadcast will be a replay of the Regeneration pilot episode aired last fall). Australia's Ten is going to be airing it starting April 3 on Saturday mornings.

According to the article the show has been airing in Scandinavia since January. Anyone over there see it yet?

No word on when or if we'll see it here in North America. The Disney connection would lead me to think the Disney Channel in the US and Family in Canada, but you never know.

It looks interesting. I know some people are turning their noses up at it, calling it too juvenile and all that. I heard the same thing about Sarah Jane Adventures until I actually watched it and realized it was a lot more mature than a lot of other youth shows out there. K-9 could be more of the same -- and anyway John Leeson rocks, and the change of K-9's appearance is explained in a way that keeps canon intact, so what the hell.

John Leeson is a legend, but I probably will only catch this occaisonally, if at all.

Great, now I've got the K9 & Company theme song stuck in my head..

I'd give it a chance. As I mentioned above I was going to write SJA off too until I watched it. Now I want to see every episode. Same, to a degree, with Torchwood. When it was announced I wasn't particularly interested, but it got my attention and held it and my reward was Children of Earth.

I do have to laugh, though -- could Disney XD have made it more obvious they were waiting for the BBC to confirm the start date -- and time! -- of Series 5 before making their announcement so they could schedule K-9, in the UK anyway, in such a way viewers can pretty much go from one to the next. Apparently episode 2 of Series 5 could air as early as 5:45 PM in the UK due to some talent show overrun (that'll annoy some people), so K-9 viewers might have less than an hour to wait between shows some weeks. I wish we still had weekend blocks like that here in North America. Most of our Saturday afternoons are taken up these days with reality shows and 30-minute commercials...

Think I'll give it a pass. I'm not enough of a K-9 fan to want to watch a show without more of a DW connection. Plus I've never been really happy about the redesign.
