Just watched TUC and saw something new

Just got done re-watching TUC on DVD this past weekend with my stepdaughter (we've been watching all of the old movies) and I saw some extra footage that I had never seen before, specifically during the scene where Spock forcibly mind-melds with Valeris to obtain the identity of the conspirators there were brief images of each of the conspirators as they are revealed, which I hadn't recalled seeing before. I apparently was watching the extended "Scooby Doo" ending version. I've seen the movie several times, including both the theatrical and extended "Scooby Doo" ending and had never remembered this. Anybody else see this in any of the releases?

So when was the Scooby Doo ending added? I sort of remember watching TUC on TV pre-1996, when I got all the movies in a VHS boxset. I can't really remember if there was a Scooby Doo ending or not previously, but by the time I had them on video, there was. As this is what I grew up with, it's the only ending I remember. :wtf:

Oh, and I thought the pictures flashing up each time Valeris revealed a new conspirator were goofy.

The "Scooby Doo ending" wherein Colonel West is revealed, along with the earlier scene in the Federation President's office in which Colonel West is introduced, were both added (restored, if you will) for the first home video release. That is to say, Rene Auberjonois did not appear in the theatrical release but has appeared in (I think) all home video versions of TUC, although possibly not the Blu-Ray.

Scooby Doo? When Worf says this is not Kingon blood. (in his nutrogena T gell voice, then they pull off odos mask and it turns out to be stick stickly. Everytime hes layin there i hear Val Kilmer saying Stickly's suicide was obviously a computer generated forgery - BAt,man Froever). Why is this called Scooby doo? Roller coaster ride of an ending, or because its like those meddling kids? I dont get it. Anyway- I rember Spock used to say Romulan ambasador Nanclus, now he just says rommie ambassador. THe flasback ruins a beautiful shot too. BUt how did it end after scotty shot the kingon, he just fell and thats it?

Yep, Scotty shot the Klingon assassain, and he fell through the glass. Then they cut to the conspirators being arrested.

Just be glad George Lucas didn't make STAR TREK VI. His next incarnation/release of the movie would have CGI Dewbacks and Hayden Christensen standing on the bridge while Spock melds with Valeris.

Not to mention Kirk screaming "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!" just before he saves the Federation President from being killed.

The title of this thread should be changed to, "Just watched TUC and saw something nearly 8 years old".

I liked the scene where Kirk has to confront the CGI Jabba and explain why he dumped the Enterprise's spice shipment.

I don't know why they had to put the shimmering blue ghost of Gary Mitchell in there, though. Completely gratuitous.

They should have put in a dance scene on the prison asteroid, where all the aliens are CGI and competing in a prison breakdance throwdown.
