Just watched Lost season 1 through 5 in 2 weeks

Couldnt stop watching!

My thoughts:

Season 1-3 were just incredible. Its amazing that theres such a complex plot on a show that focuses so heavily on character development. It's like Heroes, but less ridiculous, and with character development!

Which brings me to season 4 and 5... still good, but I fear they suffred from "Heroes Syndrome". The plot got a bit wild and out of control, character motivations and alliances started to strain credulity a lot of the time. Thankfully this was only to a minor degree, but it was bothersome because what happened to Heroes is really annoying to me.

As a whole, I love this show and I can't believe I waited this long to get into it. It's quite painful to have to wait so long for season 6 now, after being able to satisfy my need for more with a mere click for 5 straight seasons.

Lucky you. It must have been quite a ride being able to watch all that without breaks. It's the only way to watch shows like these.

I thought season 4 was the best season. To me, it was where the show hit its peak. Then it crossed the line a bit with season 5 and its full-on scifi mode. It's still good though and I can't wait for season 6.

Nice one, i recently did exactly the same thing. It was a ride all the way and cant wait for the next season. (I tended to watch 4/5 episodes at a time)

I agree with the poster above about season four being the best. Season five was really good but it just lacked the oomph of four. It didn't have an episode quite as good as "The Constant" or "The Shape of Things to Come."

When I started watching LOST, I couldn't do it that fast because...well...I have a career, a family, etc. But I watched seasons 1 - 4 in about 10 weeks, which is really fast for me - about the fastest I've watched any TV show. And then I watched season 5 in pretty close to real time (finished season 4 about 3 weeks into season 5).

And the great thing is that it is so re-watchable. I'm halfway through season 2 on a re-watch. Going alot slower this time as I know what's going to happen and I'm more interested in watching for clues I didn't pick up on the first time though...but I'm finding this show to be thoroughly re-watchable.

It didn't have an episode quite as good as "The Constant" or "The Shape of Things to Come."

While I agree with that, I felt that season five flowed much better than season four, almost as well as season two, with setups and payoffs and twists in between. While it didn't have the magic for me that season one and two had, season four is my least favorite, cool flash forwards notwithstanding.

Plus, I gotta hand it to a season that showed us that a guy we thought was dead was realy alive and a a guy we thought was alive was really dead.

One thing to keep in mind about these seasons, is that when it aired live, Season 3 was not that well recieved by many (including myself in there). I imagine it's much stronger on DVD, but weekly, that "Others" stuff just didn't seem compelling and felt dragged. So Season 4, while a bit wild, was a bit of a reaction, and a lot of the people who didn't like Season 3 really liked the shift in tone.

It's always interesting how different things feel on DVD! I love watching shows on DVD!

It's funny...

When I started reading X-Men it was right before the Dark Phoenix Saga, and naturally everything that came later seemed good, but not great. I'd made the mistake of starting with a high point.

Conversely, when I started watching Lost I started at Season 3, then watched seasons 1 and 2 when 3 was on hiatus. The first half of 3 is, IMO, the low-point of the show to date. Of course, I also didn't have a lot invested in Eko at that point, but even in retrospect, you sort of end up wondering why they didn't just kill him off at the end of Live Together, Die Alone.

I was hooked from the first episode but I lost interest towards the end of the 1st season. To me it just seemed like the overall story was not thought out and they were making it up as it went along. Am I wrong? I do intend to give it another go at some point so I don't want to know any spoilers please. Is there a consistent overall plot? If so I will watch it.

I hope it didn't become what Enterprise did in the 1st 2 seasons

To a certain extent they are making it up as they go. However, it's clear that they have the basic shape of the story figured out, and it's just the details that are refined as they go.

The first and second seasons drag a bit in places, because they were trying to avoid advancing the plot too fast for fear of running out. However, it isn't too much of a problem.

Season 3 closes off most of the original backstories in one way or another, and then seasons 4-5 change gears a bit. At that point they knew exactly how many episodes they were going to have left, and the pace of storytelling picks up even as they shift into a different sort of storytelling.

I remember the writers stating awhile back that Season 2 was "The Hatch" and Season 4 was "The Rescue"
