Just starting season 1

...let's agree to disagree.
That's a wonderful idea! Marvelous! Fantastic!

...Or someone could drag out the DVD, or even a transcript, and lay this thing to rest, mmh?

No he didn't die because he appears in at least one other episode.
Which episode?

Ah well, since it's 1am, I'll opt for a transcript.

Archer and Phlox talk as the redshirt--er, Novakovich lies on a biobed.

ARCHER: I thought you said he was going to be fine.
PHLOX: I did, but each tropolisine atom contains a stray neutron. When it started to break down in his bloodstream it released an undetectable toxin. I've injected him with Inoprovalene but I think it may be too late. If I'd run a submolecular scan I might have anticipated the complication, but there was no reason to. At least, there didn't seem to be. I can't tell you how sorry I am, Captain.
ARCHER: What about the others?
PHLOX: They spent less time exposed.
ARCHER: I've got four people down on the surface, Doctor. I need to know if they're going to be dead when we get there in the morning.
At this point, I could understand if viewers think poor Novakovich is a goner. Later, Archer fills in Trip and T'Pol:

ARCHER: The compound comes from the pollen of a flower. We think it was blown down from the mountains when the wind started. The doctor's run tests on Novakovich. He thinks he's going to be okay in a few hours.
And a bit later, when Trip has a phase pistol on T'Pol:

ARCHER: Both of you listen to me very carefully. Novakovich may be dying. Turns out the pollen contains some kind of toxin our sensors hadn't detected. He's responding to medication, but his odds of recovery would be a hell of a lot better if we'd treated him sooner.
Still doesn't look good for the guy. But wait! The last two lines of the episode:

TRAVIS: Ow, I must have twisted up my neck. How's Novakovich? Do we know?
T'POL: The Captain says he's going to be fine.

welcome wyse and vykan12..

vykan i think porthos being on the ship was a tribute to a long going naval tradition.
at least as far back as the civil war if not before then.
believe it not there were even dog mascots on many us navy ships in wwII.

some notes..
in strange new world they had to beam the medicine to the mouth of the cave just outside.
bad news without the advanced bio filters in the later trek series.
i guess this is where the debate about novakovich started.

as for the vulcans..
tpol is no where near as bad as say the vulcan captain in ds9 .. the baseball game one.
or as bad as valeris, the one in tng that was terrorist.. ect/...

but what enterprise was trying to explore that the vulcans have in way lost their way.
we learn from the back ground of the series in dialog that vulcans have lost the desire to explore.
their sense of scientific curiousity.
that they expect they know what there is to know .
so much so in breaking the ice they dont see the need to explore the comet.
but in exploring the comet malcolm and travis find an element (this is from memory) that the vulcans believe to be rare.
