Looks more like flashbacks to me, I imagine if they had Shatner also as Kirk he could be talking to Spock in a pre-generations time period about there first mission etc.. Now if it were just Spock they could have him at post-nemesis if they wanted to.

It's gonna be a story told by "Old Spock" to a young soon-to-be Starfleet cadet... many years post-Nemesis. Who that Cadet is... remains to be seen (though I really expect it to be a Romulan).

I don't think "flashback" is a correct way to describe it, because "flashback" is usually applied to a brief bit. Pretty much the whole story is going to be one big "flashback" so I'd, instead, call the 25th-Century stuff "flash-forward bookends."
