It should really be:

1. Acquire Tardis
2. Acquire HD D5 tape deck
3. Take said deck back in time and plug analogue output of 2" playback machine direct into HD D5 and record highest quality possible (I would prefer an HDCAM SR but the analogue imput boards are hugely expensive)
4. Return to the present and become a hero to Who fans and get lots of girls.
5. Realise that last bit is never gonna happen, go to the pub and drown your sorrows.
