Just Picked Up the Round2 Repop of the AMT TOS Bridge Kit

Interesting things in this box. Unlike the old version, which left out two or three wall sections (presumably for visibility?) this has enough walls to build the whole round bridge. The decals are worlds apart from the those of the old kit. Also, I need to check it against what remains of the original version of this kit I built as a kid, but thee seems to be more detail in the captain's chair and the helm console than I recall.

One thing that does jump out at me is the figures provided. The sculpts are new and are a definite step up from the old ones. You get six different bodies and ten different heads to choose from. The likenesses aren't great, but the sculpts are named in the instructions so you can tell who they're all supposed to be. Interestingly, included amongst the heads are Boma, Latimer and Yeoman Mears, which makes me assume that this figure sprue will also find its way into the new shuttlecraft kit... which would be awesome.

I noted that there is still no actual lower floor provided with this kit, so the deck surrounding the command console is a bottomless pit unless you whip out a sheet of styrene. Some things I had hoped would be improved were not addressed at all. But the improvements that were done were done well.

It'll probably be a while til I actually start in on building this thing, but I decided I'd mention it anyway.

I know there is a PE detail set out there somewhere I've been debating if I want to get. Looks like it's only about $30 so I probably will.

Makes me think about tackling scratch builds of some of the other sets in the same scale. Captain's Cabin, Briefing Room, Transporter. Maybe Sickbay. Engineering if I'm feeling really ambitious...

Anyone else ever try their hands at this kit?

I had the AMT kit when it came out, I thought the bridge sections went all the way around.

What's the approximate scale of the thing? Seems it was smaller than 1/25.

Thanks!!! :) (wait, I hope you meant better, lol)

The PE is well worth it and in fact there is a second PE set coming out which corrects the size of the displays and also will include new decals to fit.

I can't recall where I saw it online, but someone had taken this new kit and modified it into a fantastic replica of "The Cage" era bridge. It was pretty damn cool.

Whoa! Were you involved with those? Your site is amazing. Actually, when I was looking at the decals I thought about your research. And, yes, I do mean that the decals are much improved!

I'll probably hold out for that upcoming PE. It'll be a while before I actually build this thing anyhow... I have too much on my plate at the moment. I really just bought it out of curiosity more than anything. But I promise, I will build it someday!
