Posted something similar a few days ago before some of the more recent spoilers were leaked. I suspect Nero WILL attempt to assasinate Kirk at numerous points in the timeline and this will cause a split in the timeline allowing the writers to make creative changes to canon.
If your hoping that this film will be 100% canon i think your in for a letdown, which IMO is a good thing. No it doesn't mean that all the things that happened in the normal canon timeline are erased and no longer happen, i suspect that they have written the script on the presumption that the physics 'many worlds interpretation' is true, hence when the split in the timeline occurs the universe will in effect split off onto another one. Hence why they say a reboot or a reimagining doesn't accurately describe the movie, since the film will essentially take place in a universe that has splintered off from the original one due to Nero's multiple attempts on Kirks life.
Its a way to ensure that they can tweak canon whilst trying to satisfy the hardcore fans by saying that all the other stuff did happen, just not in the universe the movie is set in.
