Jump the shark dot com is dead, :klingon:
this was once an interesting site.

It was a no holes barred critique of tv, you could log on and fame shows like Dollhouse with no fear of getting flamed back.
You could discuss when DS9 jumped, was it the intro of Worf? was it when DS9 tried to be too much like B5? Or did it finally jump the shark after Jadzia goes Erzi Dax?
It didn't matter what show you wanted to bash, Stargate after O'Neil and Weir leave, 24 as Jack's dad becomes the terrorist, Battlestar when the Pegasus died, Smallville, TerminatorSCC, Heroes, Dollhouse...

Jumptheshark let you vent it all without the trolling fanboys lashing back. :scream:

You could be critical on jumptheshark while having a place that was flame free!!

Now the website is over
the url re-directs to tv guide
What a bunch of sell outs.

Jump-the-shark was once an interesting place and had informative criticism, now it's had it's heart ripped out and it got cloned with watered-down criticism of only current shows that are light enough to still be considered stealth advertisements

Sounds good, was it free?

If it was, then it relied on advertising revenue. Did you (or anyone else) click any of the ads on the site? If not...there's your reason why it's gone.

I think the other problem with a site like that (all negative with no discussion or conflict) is that people come there, vent, but do not necessarily read much of what anyone else says. Again, this would effect hit rate and ad renevue.

It's easy to see why jumptheshark.com jumped the shark. :)

I don't see how that's relevant. All that matters is the ads are there; we don't actually *have* to click on them. The mere fact that they are there is proof that the company has already paid the site operator to put them up. So it's all over and done with.

I mean, how many of us actually click on the ads right here on this site? We can't block them, but we don't have to look at or use them. Once they're there, it means UGO's ponied up the dough, and that's all that's needed. :techman:

Yeah, I don't remember a time that I have ever clicked on an ad. Too bad about jumptheshark though.

Sounds like a really boring site.

Why on earth would you need to vent about such things? A site just for slagging off TV shows? It just sounds pathetic

Fuck...it was actually a really good site.

They'd have a poll where you could vote on the moment you believed a TV show "jumped the shark" (e.g. many likely said X-Files Season 5 for that show)...and this was like for every show in existence. It wasn't just about complaining either. For some shows, the basic consensus was that it never jumped the shark.

Anyways...that's too fucking bad.

That sucks. I haven't been to that site in a long time though. It didn't strike me as a site that would have been very difficult to finance. It looks like TV Guide didn't pay much for it since they apparently had no interest in preserving any content.

Boy, the joke sort of writes itself for this one, doesnt' it? Still always a shame when something is subsumed by another.

So some bashing cowards lost a place were they could stroke their imaginary and meaningless egos?

That is good news.

I mean, really...fear of getting flamed back? Thats pathetic.

Cowards? We're all fucking cowards. I mean, do you see our real names in our profiles? Do you see our phone numbers and addresses in our signatures? No. Hell, usually not even our emails.

One of the benefits for advertisers on the web is that they can see if people are actually responding to their ads. Often times the sites only get paid when a user clicks on an ad (that's how it works with Google's AdSense ads for example).

Jon Hein, who now works on the Howard Stern show, created that site and got paid a ridiculous amount of money for it. Looks like he got out just in time.

Which makes it even more pathetic to be afraid of recieving the verbal equivalent of a bleeding nose.

That's not cowardice. That's common sense.

That bites:mad:

JTS was such a  site.

I was just thinking of JTS & was literally going to go look at it.

Then I saw this here thread:brickwall:

TPTB always find a way to take away folk's fun:wtf:

Someone should make a New JTS site that's like the original real one.

JTS has been taken over by Herberts who only like pages & threads of sweet little nothings.

How exciting:eek:

What brought an end to Jumptheshark? Was it Ted McGinley or the new kid on the block or when they did it or same character, different actor or death (?) or a very special episode...

Oh, brother. They'd better not try that here. Malware/virus issues aside, I have never had any *use* for anything advertised in an ad here, and I'd hate to be *forced* to click on these ads in order to use the board.
