July Art Challenge - Starscape

With the Trek comic in full swing on the board I found my thoughts keep drifting back to comics and cartoons, so I guess it was inevitable I'd pick a comic/trek cross-over.

My plan is to create a graphic novel cover for "Herge Star Trek Adventures" (Herge being the creator of Tintin) and I've decided to try to do most of the line-work by hand, which is probably a very big mistake on my part.

Here's what I've got so far for the background, it needs tidying up and colouring, I'll do that in paint shop pro, later.



Okay, it's not pretty, but hopefully it looks somewhat familiar.

My initial plan was to have this as cover for a Pike-era story and have Pike and Spock in the foreground. But maybe I should go with Kirk and Spock, what do you think?

Definitely go with the Pike angle ... not enough love for the guy around here, y'know ... Kirk grabs all the spotlight.

And what you have looks pretty good for line art ... Good job!

I've done a little more tonight. Here's the general layout for the cover with some added colour (I'm not finished with the colouring, yet):

I'll be using a different font for the main title (I've just found the correct Tintin font on the 'net). And I'm thinking of redrawing the castle... I'm not too happy with it.

After seeing some of the other entries for this month's challenge I almost gave up on this... I've no chance. But in the end I decided I wanted to see if I could get this completed, for myself.

So, after a quite few days of drawing, re-drawing, inking and colouring here's the finished cover:
