My apologies. When I got home after work I thought "Hey I need to put up the poll around midnight." And then my body tricked me with the old, "Hey I have something to show you on the couch, in front of the fan." Several hours later my wife is poking me and giving me the it's time to wake up and go to bed speech.

But now without further mildew are the entries for the July challenge.

Data Fragments by GatorDASH

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine "My Business" by Rush Limborg

Voting will be open for the next 48 hours. So as they say in Chicago, vote early and vote often. :-P

Yeah, we're going through a lengthy drought at the moment. :( This has happened before, though, so I'm optimistic the interest in the challenge will grow again.

Hmm...a possible tie? Shucks--and only an hour to go. As there are only two of us--no chance for a run off.

Wow. Here's hoping....

Mmh, it's officially a tie now. I'm not sure we ever had this situation. Maybe Stoek has to roll a dice or throw a coin?

I'm open to input. I had actually withheld my vote thinking that one possibility might be keeping it back as a tie breaker if needed. But if a coin flip/ dice roll/ guess a number etc is preferred I'm okay with that too. I have to admit to being a bit surprised that there's never been a tie before. First time for everything I guess. *L*

Well, there were ties, but not between just two people, but in larger fields of contestants. A run-off vote was then used to decide the competition. I don't think any of those ended in a tie but don't take my word for it. My memory isn't that good. ;)

I thought the dice or coin method would be more impartial because it's random but it's your contest and so it's up to you to decide what to do. If you withheld your vote to use it as a tie-breaker, that's fine, too. Very classical, like Athena in Aeschylus' play The Eumenides. I kind of like it. :)

Thanks. What can I say I'm the kind of Geek who takes my responsibilities very seriously.

In that case...

A great effort was given by both writers, and I'm glad that Rush was able to get his story in. I enjoyed it greatly and frankly would have really loved it if it had been made into an episode proper. He got that wry tone that Rene Ouberjenois (And yeah I probably whiffed the spelling but I'm trying to make dinner and type at the same time) often used when playing Odo.

But I have to give my vote to GatorDASH. Memento is one of my favorite movies and the idea of telling a story like that using Data was so jaw droppingly perfect that I was kind of jealous that I never thought of it myself.

So congratulations to our July Fan Fiction Challenge winner GatorDASH.

And thank you to everyone who participated as either an entrant or a voter.

Thank you, Stoek, for allowing me to participate. As far as I'm concerned...the fact that you enjoyed my tale is reward enough.

I knew whether or not I could convincingly write my prose in Odo's voice, more than anything else, would be the deciding element in whether "My Business" worked or not, as a story. I'm glad you liked it. :)

And a hearty congratulations to GatorDASH! I can't wait to see what this month's theme will be....

Congrats, GatorDASH! Don't forget to post your story in the winning entries thread pinned at the top of the forum.

Thank you to everyone that voted for my story, as well as everyone that took the time to read it! Rush Limborg, I really enjoyed your story, you nailed the voice of Odo.

Stoek, you picked a great theme. I had a lot of fun writing my story.

Thank you, mate! Was this the first contest you entered? If so--I'm even MORE impressed! :techman:

Looking forward to your subject for August! :)
