In today's world we often revel in media that reveals the worst of the human condition. Anything else is often brushed off as overly sentimental or naive.
Joyeux Noel is a movie about the Christmas Truce of 1914 between soldiers on the opposite side of World War I. It is at its core a movie about the brotherhood of man and is unabashed in its message that the best of humanity can triumph, even if only for a few days.
I cannot conceive that a movie about South African hardships was able to top this for the 2005 Foreign Language Oscar. This fact highlights the tragedy of how dark our lives have truly become and how cynical they really are.
Please watch this movie. Spend the time. Spend the money but watch this movie. Please.
