Jonathan Creek – The Judas Tree

Bob The Skutter

Complete Arse Cleft
In Memoriam
From BBC Press Office

When a young woman becomes seemingly possessed by the spirit of a Victorian sorceress, illusionist Jonathan Creek and intrepid investigator Joey Ross must fight to prove she is innocent of murder, as the supernatural detective drama returns for a one-off special.

In a lofty old timbered house on the outskirts of London, mystery surrounds the strange death of a former owner, Dr Thadeus Northcote, who, in 1889, fell victim to the supernatural powers of his Egyptian housekeeper and secret lover, the sensuously beautiful Selima Al Sharad. Spurned by her master, she is said to have sealed his fate by correctly predicting the exact time and day he would meet a dreadful, agonising death – apparently without any physical or rational explanation.

More than a hundred years later the house, Green Lanterns, has become home to celebrated crime writer Hugo Dore and his publisher wife, Harriet. But even he has been unable to unlock the riddle of Dr Northcote's death.

And when he rescues sweet young Emily Somerton from her menial job in a shoe shop to assist his ageing housekeeper Mrs Gantry, the malign presence of her Victorian predecessor once again appears to stalk the house...

Gradually, Emily becomes convinced she is losing her mind, as a series of mysterious developments suggest she is no longer in control of her own actions – and that an unearthly force is encouraging her to commit murder...

Perhaps a chance meeting with a likeable young man in a duffel coat will offer an avenue of hope?
So it's almost time for the latest Jonathan Creek special. It's supposed to be on this Easter but doesn't seem to have an air date yet. I only got in to Jonathan Creek after the New Year special so I'm looking forward to this.

Even though i felt the last Jonathan Creek was the weakest of the lot i still enjoyed it so i can't wait for this new one.

I don't know, I felt like a couple of episodes were weaker, but that may have been due to watching the entire series on DVD over the space of a few weeks after I'd seen the New Year one as my first episode.

The reason i feel its the weakest is because i worked it out and i have never been able to do that before.
Their was nothing wrong with the story.
Its a shame Alan Davies and Julia Sawalha fell out i thought they where good together.

To be honest, I'm not even sure I remember it properly after seeing all of the episodes in such a short period of time. So maybe if I saw it again I'd change my mind.

There's a NEW Jonathan Creek?!?!??!

Why the HELL didn't I know this?

Thank you for posting this thread; I would have missed it altogether and I absolutely ADORE Jonathan Creek (even if it hasn't been the same since Maddie left).

Its the one with where the bath puts people into a tank where they drown.

Yeah, I thought it was, but I wasn't 100% sure.

According to my media centre this special is going to be on BBC One Sunday 4th of April and HD on the monday.

I'm not an avid watcher of Teh Creek, but I'll definitely give this one a go.

OK, 20 minutes to go until it starts....

I thought it was a bit hit and miss, but mainly miss, to be honest. It was nice to see McGann, and Alan Davis and Sheridan Smith are watchable. Other than that, I found it to be irritating and confused.

The plot had holes big enough for a mentally-handicapped-previously-unmentioned-older-brother to drive a sports car through. But hey, Sheridan Smith.

I haven't watched it yet, but I hear Alan Davis has been bitching about various things, such as the scheduling and the budget cuts... doesn't sound like it really matters if the writing was shit though.

I know the BBC needs to save money but i think they should spend a bit more on the writers.

OK...finally got a chance to see this.

WOW. That bit with the watch was complete crap and it was pretty obvious as to who exactly was in the washroom in the empty house.

I also didn't like the ending. It just didn't seem like something Jonathan would do.

As always, I just ADORE Alan as Jonathan Creek, but the plot on this one was fairly mediocre.

^I just saw it last night and I have to agree. Kinda seemed like they tried too hard to be clever and made some stuff obvious and some stuff not work at all.

Well it was better than the last special (which seemed to go off on all kinds of weird tangents) but the show hasn't been great for a while. I prefer Sheridan Smith to Julia Sawalha (didn't like the character despite adoring JS) but to be honest I still prefer Maddie as the perfect foil for Jonathan.

I think they need to stop making specials and go back to 45/60 minute episodes. I fear as well that the writer's used up every really cool idea he had and the seem increasingly bonkers.

I still enjoyed it though, and like I said, better than last year's....

I just watched it last night, it was OK.

It's the first episode of Jonathan Creek I have seen.

Is it worth watching the older ones?
