Jonah Lomu has passed away

Rugby Great Jonah Lomu has died at the age of 40. My condolences to his family.

Reading the article, I guess some people were aware that he had health problems for a while but I wasn't one of them so that thread title was a shock.

Such sad news. I even enjoyed watching him against us. Swatting or throwing opponents aside, outpacing them, running around them or over them... Brilliant.

In one of the articles I read today he was quoted as saying he wanted to live to 55 so he could see his children reach the age of 21. How awful for them and all his family and friends that even that modest goal didn't become a reality.

Requiescat in pace, and thanks for the fabulous memories.

Yes, a bit of a shock. His health problems had been well documented, but his passing was unexpected (in his sleep just after returning from the UK, I believe). Suffice to say it's dominated the news down here since yesterday.

I met him years back when he was in the All Blacks and staying at a complex my parents ran. Really nice guy.

He is certainly up there so far as iconic Kiwis go. Rest easy.
