Also, it's most likely NOT $61 million up front. A lot of that may be in projected points that he'll get along with his salary.
SPECULATIVE SPOILER (but only if I'm right)
I'm still guessing that the little boy we saw in the epilogue of III was actually Jack Sparrow, a few years after he went searching for the Fountain of Youth, which is where he was headed at the end of III.
So depending on if Knightley and Bloom are included, the fourth adventure just might BE about the Fountain of Youth excursion with Jack ending up as a baby at the end.

Jesus Christ! And I'm sure there's a clause in there of him getting percentages of the take, too.
Depp is great in TPotC movies, the only thing worth seeing the last two for (short of Keira Knightley) as far as I'm concerned. But $61m?!?!?!?!??!
Seriously? That's absurd. No wonder these movies cost so much these days and struggle to make their money back. It's got to be tough one you need one good opening weekend for your movie to pay for ONE ACTOR!!!!

When I filmed scenes with that guy on the set of Spider-Man 1 back in March 2001, I never knew that the little Napoleon was going to be worth that much someday!

Holy shit! I figured $50 million was going to stand as the new record for a while for Tobey Maguire, by that's for doing both Spider-Man 4 AND 5. Depp getting $61 million upfront for any one movie is mind boggling! AFAIK, the previous record for a single movie was Arnold Schwarzenegger getting $30 million for Terminator 3. I wonder how accurate this $61 million figure is. Perhaps that's not just upfront but estimated gross points as well? Or maybe that's a combined salary for both the new Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger?

I do think its stupid of the makes of the film to offer him that much but at the end of the day its there money so what they do with it is up to them and i not going to have a go at Johnny Depp for taking it i don't think there may people out there that would turn that amount of money down for 3 months work.
