He was so right for DYNASTY. I mean, he was like a silver-haired Ronald Reagan, if Reagan had been a cultured millionaire with a bitchy ex-wife and a slutty daughter who got abducted by aliens. So, yeah, a lot like Ronald Reagan...
I agree, he was the best part of Dynasty and will be missed. Interestingly George Peppard was originally cast as Blake Carrington but the role was recast during the filming of the Pilot
Also, he asked the Dynasty producers to keep Blake a faithful husband, whatever his other faults or sins might be.
I remember Bachelor, and Jack Soo too. I can't remember the names of the movie or the series. But in one movie he played Bo, a cult leader married to Peep. I read later the characters were modeled on that Heaven's Gate leader, Marshall somebody, but who knows if that was true. I remember parts of it, very creepy stuff. He also did a short lived near future sf series where he was a commander in the secret police of a dictatorial US government. A younger agent was the heroic lead (secretly a member of the resistance, naturally,) but he was the antivillain, if I understand the term correctly. Forsythe had a broad range. I remember his smooth performance as a murdering doctor in particular, but again I can't remember the title. "Charlie" was nothing by comparison to the rest of his work. He was literally phoning it in.
RIP, John!!!! You were great as the voice of Charlie and of course on Dynasty. We will miss you, "Charlie"
^^ He had one of the greatest voices ever. That's kind of how he came to be Charles Townsend as well. The guy originally chosen for the part was too drunk to perform at the time of recording, so Aaron Spelling called Forsythe and asked him for a favor. He came down to the studio in his bathrobe and slippers, so the story goes, and the rest is history.
Wow...hadn't seen this before today. Have no idea how it slipped under my radar. I really like him...and from his days long before Dynasty. He is in some really great classic films.
