JJ's scene by scene comments on trailer

"I think that what this movie's bringing is a remarkable new and energetic young cast and a treatment of the world of Star Trek that I think is as intimate as the story is massive in scope. This is a treatment of Star Trek with action and comedy and romance and adventure, as opposed to a rather talky geekfest."

Nicely done . :techman:

A......a....

Are we allowed to reveal the reveal in this thread?

B/C I'm having a WTF reaction to something...but it'd be huge if I said it..

Although I must say...Saldana's rather more bony than I thought. The Starfleet uniform helps hide that, thankfully!

Spoiler text them for the moment - is it the same thing I'm thinking of?

That both Kirk's mum and dad get killed on the Kelvin?

I thought what is in your spoiler code was already heavily implied by all the other things I've read--so I was not shocked to read it.

I do think I will start avoiding further spoilers, though. What I've seen so far makes me excited to see the film but I'd rather not know every single detail and plot point before I see it.

I'm guessing that's the "big slap in the face" Abrams was talking about before.

Definite timeline change, no doubt about that. Not the way others might have gone, but not a showstopper, either.

I'm surprised by the sheer level of detail that is being provided by the film makers.

I don't trust this article. One of the scenes is clearly not described right since the ship shown is the Kelvin not the Enterprise.

There remains a lot of time for tweaking the film with judicious editing AND trailers often contain scenes/snippets that are not in the final cut of a film--so perhaps some of this detail will be absent (and Abrams is noted for his love of misdirection). In any event, I know I won't be able to avoid every spoiler, but I will be careful (starting tomorrow). Besides, I've had the most fun in here observing the "purists" writhing in agony over minutiae even before any details were readily available. But that has started to grow stale. And my semester is winding down, so I'll be loaded up with marking--not so much time to hang out in here.

Well, I'd already kinda treated Kirk's dad as dead based on 'Final Frontier' by Diane Carey, so offing Kirk's mom is no big deal.

No, my shock was the whole 'red matter' and a black hole in the center of a planet...that just sounds.....um....I don't know. It doesn't exactly inspire me with amazement.

Regarding his mom.. it is mentioned in at least one of these articles with the press events that Pike tells Kirk that his dad said his mother's life as well as his (Kirk's.)

No no...in Groton!

What, I figured that'd just add a new dimension to the debate....

An insane one, yes, but don't discount it!

Why is this "Anthony" guy more trustworthy than this "JJ Abrams" guy?

Anyway, while these commentary lines on the trailer misidentify the Kelvin as the Enterprise, we might have reason to think that the commentary writers know more about what is going on than the other writers that have dipped their pen in this mess so far. So perhaps the Enterprise does engage Nero's ship at some point of the movie?

Similarly, I'd tend to trust the claim that the guards manhandling Nero are indeed Klingons, as claimed.

Of course, neither of the above claims is particularly radical or difficult to believe anyway. But it still feels as if this commentary is much more worthwhile than all the previous ones put together.

As per all references elsewhere in Trek, yes, it should (albeit with possible annexes elsewhere in the galaxy). Who says differently?

I'm just thinking about the "bar fight". Wondering if Kirk is fighting with people from the Academy or just Pike's crew members.
