JJ Abrams Rips-Off ST:OGAM!!! {SPOILERS}

Breen Commando

Commander
Red Shirt
The rumored plot for "Trek XI" is nearly identical to the fan series "Star Trek: Of Gods And Men". Both involve time travel to "kill off" James T. Kirk. What gives!!!

ZOMG! Star Trek: Of Gods and Men ripped off Star Trek: First Contact, where the Borg use time travel to try and kill Zefram Cochrane!

ZOMG! Star Trek: First Contact ripped off the Terminator movies, where a killing machine goes back in time to try and kill the mother of the guy who will lead the rebellion against Skynet! And then a different killing machine goes back in time to kill the guy when he's a kid!

ZOMG! Terminator was probably ripping something else off, but I haven't read enough LitSF to know what. :p

Breen Commando, you could've just made that post in the AICN rumor thread, which does, I should clarify, make it clear that that plot synopsis is only a rumor and may not even be a reliable rumor. You follow? ;)
Seriously, though, it is a similar concept, but not exactly the same, and like was discussed in the other thread, there's a lot of details to the skeleton idea that Moriarty was just speculating on.
But what the heck, I'll just throw this out there. We know that OGaM is delayed, with no new declared release date as far as we know, and there's been discussion that Tim Russ would really like to make a deal with Paramount to get this thing officially licensed. What if, just what if the rumor is true that the movie has a plot similar to OGaM, and Paramount has agreed to give OGaM all the rights of an official production, on the condition that they hold off the release until after Trek XI, so that a fanfilm doesn't steal the thunder of the Big Production?
Hmm...I'm sure someone with clearer head will be able to pick apart that conjecture, but I now wonder if I might make a good conspiracy theorist. (You know, the Stargate program is real...) :p

Damn! I can't believe I was weak enough to read that SPOILER!

...good thing it's all BS, huh?

Sorry everyone... I didn't realize that it was AICN that posted the rumored plot, lol. I saw an article about it on trekweb.com :-)

Terminator was ripped from Harlan Ellison's story "Solider," which was also an episode of The Outer Limits, and his other OL episode "Demon with a Glass Hand."

And, in turn, the idea of robot warriors goes back to mythological clay warriors and/or stone warriors.

Nothing's new under the sun, and I don't think we expect Abrams' film to revolutionize our shared body of narratives... just that it'll be a fun movie. I'm still a bit leery of this plot, and that's hardly because of its OGaM connections, I just feel it could easily wind up as very silly. But if it's done right... no problems.

OGAM should SUE, SUE...oh. Wait. Hm.
I guess that's what could happen when you play with someone else's toys without permission.
Not that this rumor is true anyway.

Acually, Sky and I talked about this yesterday briefly and have no issues if this plot rumor were true, infact, it would be rather cool if this were the case for a few reasons. I, however, believe this plot rumour to be false and mentioned that I'm sure Anthony (PTM) will find out if it true or not sooner or later :)

Just kinda funny that someone made a thread over this.

As for OGAM's status. Part 1 and Part 2 are just about done (minor stuff now). Part 3 still needs some more CGI work completed (because that part has the most compared to the other 2 parts). So we are now trying to gauge the time needed to complete Part 3 so we can release the three parts with out alot time in between them. We are also working on distribution methods and a few other post-completion items.
