Jesus Christ in comics

Which comics has Jesus Christ appeared in? I know about American Jesus: The Chosen, Battle Pope and Loaded Bible: Jesus vs Vampires.

Are there any others?

A mysterious figure who looked a lot like Jesus appeared in some early issues of GHOST RIDER, but I believe he was eventually revealed to be Satan in disguise!

Jesus Hates Zombies is one of the best comics out there imho..

Three albums out at the moment:
Jesus hates Zombies: Those Slack-Jaw Blues
Jesus hates Zombies featuring Lincoln Hates Werewolves: Yea, Though I walk Part 1/4
Jesus hates Zombies featuring Lincoln Hates Werewolves: Yea, Though I walk Part 2/4
Jesus hates Zombies featuring Lincoln Hates Werewolves: Yea, Though I walk Part 3/4 (forthcoming)

I'm not sure if this really counts, but Doug Tennapel's book Creature Tech features a bizarre alien christ; I think the insinuation (Tennapel, best known as creator of Earthworm Jim, is himself a Christian) is that aliens need salvation too, and so have their own equivalent saviour.

The Shroud of Turin also appears in the book - the "authentic" original which has the power to bring the dead to life!

Back in the 70s, Unknown Worlds Of Science Fiction featured an adaptation of "Behold The Man."

Another not-really-Jesus appearance in comics:

In the Spawn comic book series, The Man of Miracles appeared to humans in the form of Jesus Christ to spread a message of peace and tolerance so that armageddon could be prevented. Unfortunately, this message became corrupted by humanity, thus making armageddon inevitable.

The page makes no mention of any other comic book depictions.

The one example I can recall* of Jesus showing up in a comic was in the early 90s. It was the issue of DC comics "Secret Origins" that centered around the Specter (IIRC). In it it was rumored that the Specter was in fact the Roman Legionnaire who stabbed Jesus in the side as he was on the cross.

*other than the works of that nut job Jack Chick

Actually, I think that was the Phantom Stranger, not the Spectre.

And, of course, there was the infamous Swamp Thing/Jesus team-up DC pulled the plug on years ago. Alas, it never saw print.

Actually I think you are right. Didnt they also speculate the the Stranger could possibly be "the wandering jew" as well. Either way his punishment was to live for all eternity as an observer.

That issue offered several alternate origins for the Phantom Stranger. My favorite was that he was an angel who refused to take sides in the War of Heaven, siding neither with Lucifer nor with God, so he now walks alone . . . .

The sci-fi story was probably the worst of the four origins. It was trying to be one of those poetic "end/beginning of the universe" stories, but it really didn't make much sense.

The Wandering Jew story was interesting, but was clunky in places, particularly the part where God offers to let him off the hook and he declines!

My favorite is also the fallen angel story. (Although some sort of coloring or printing problem has rendered it very hard to read now. The others are still readable).

Second favorite is the retelling of Sodom/Gomorrah, partly because the ending is a little obscure-- what is he now, really? The Phantom Stranger needs to retain some mystery.

I believe Alan Moore wrote one of the stories, but I don't remember which one.

I'm guessing Moore did the War in Heaven story, because there was some dialogue in one of his SWAMP THING stories that implied the same origin. I believe Etrigan the Demon taunts the Stranger about not choosing a side in the war between Heaven and Hell . . . .

Etrigan the Angel (and later the Demon) is featured in the story, anyway. Someone taunts the Stranger, but I'm not sure if it's him. A lot of the ink from the ads on the opposing pages seems to have rubbed onto the images, so it's hard for me to see who's speaking.

Gotlib drew a story sometime in the seventies, called God's Club.

In this image (some nudity -after all they are all Gods!) He can be seen with (left to right) Odin, Jupiter, Allah, Buddah and Jehova.

The image is -of course- before they get drunk and high and watch pornos on 8 mm and whatnot...
