"East Bound and Down" Still one of the best driving songs ever recorded.

    Thanks, Jerry!

His hits were somewhat on the novelty side, and everybody remembers him as "Snowman" in "Smokey and the Bandit," but that guy could play. One of the hottest country guitar players, ever, electric or acoustic. Just listen to that solo in "East Bound and Down," it's smokin' hot.

I'm really sorry to hear this. My respects for Mr. Reed.

I've been a fan of his since one of his first hits Amos Moses was on the charts (several years before Smokey and the Bandit). In fact, when I was a child and got my first cassette player (yes I'm old), the first tape I got was the album that contained that song.

I also remember hearing Jerry Reed on the radio and and ordering a tape (The Best of Jerry Reed) to hear more. Besides "Amos Moses" and "When You're Hot, You're Hot" it had one of the most-covered country guitar-picking tunes ever made -- Jerry's own "The Claw".

    So long, Jerry, and thanks.

I've got one country music CD in my 900 disc collection, and it's Jerry Reed Super Hits. I'll stick it in the car tomorrow in memoriam. RIP, Mr. Reed. You were a great talent.

I feel like I should rent a t-top Trans Am with an 8-track and CB and play his best hits album.

In addition to his musical talent, what a likable screen personality.

My favorite part of Smokey and the Bandit whas when Jerry got beat up by the bikers while he was making a stop. He ambles his way to his rig sits in the cab looking like he just lost his best friend in the world. Suddenly he starts laughing in that Jerry Reed way we all knew, started up his rig, and drove over all the bikes in the parking lot.

Wow. Just the other night, "Amos Moses" came to mind. No idea why. I hadn't thought of the song in years.

What a shame. Wait'll my Mum hears of this.

Jerry Reed, besides the "Smokey" movies, was in one of my all time favorites "Hot Stuff," with Dom DeLouise, Suzanne Pleshette, and Ossie Davis. Very funny movie, and Jerry is great in it.

    R.I.P., sir. :(

RIP...always a fan of his. "She Got The Goldmine" is a fave for any of the divorced guys paying out the nose.

I wonder if Burt Reynolds wil lbe releasing a statement or if anyoen cares what he has to say on it. I havent heard any reaction from his co-stars or other country music performers. Has anyone made any sort of mention?

He was in BAT 21, too. Remember that? It was one of the 50 movies Gene Hackman made the late 80's.

Just saw Jerry Reed in "Gator",another Burt Reynolds movie from the 70's.
Jerry played an affable but ultimately very bad bad guy.
    Sad news.

Aw shit that's a real downer. One of the few entertainment types that I really feel bad hearing this about.

That man was one hell of a picker.
