Jenna leaving - next compnion ?

No offense to Rory's character, but its time for a dominant male companion. This doctor isn't the romantic kind (we've had enough of that anyway) so no more young, good-looking women. On the other hand, an older smart and feisty woman like Big Finish's Evelyn Smythe would also work well with this Doctor (but maybe Missy is going to play this role this season - we'll see.)

Re: Jenna leaving - next companion ?

I know people might say that it's from The Mirror but they've been spot on with all their DW related stories for a while now.

And if 2016 is just Specials then it could be a while before we get another full-time companion.

Well can't say I'll hate to see her go. Nothing against Jenna, but last season left me really loathing Clara as a character. I don't know if that was Moffat's intention or what, but by the end of Series 8 I found her grating on the nerves.

Well I would either go for someone who isn't from modern day Earth (Britain). They can be from the future/past an alien but something a bit different from what we have had since the show returned.

Or go for two companions one can be from modern day Earth and the other along the lines highlighted above.

If this is true, then I'm okay with it. As much as I liked Clara in series 7, she annoyed me quite a bit in series 8. I'll take the "Impossible Girl" over "Personality Clara" any day. But who knows. Maybe Clara will be better again in series 9.

A part of me still wishes that it was Victorian Clara who became the Doctor's companion. I really liked her.

I'll miss her. Very much. :( And I'm sure Capaldi will too. But I'm glad she's landed a nice project. She's a great actress and an adorable individual so I wish her success in the future. She'll carve out a nice niche for herself. According to her, other than a swan at age 7, all she's ever wanted to be is an actress. So girl...go for it.:techman:

I knew this was coming and last Christmas was an extra gift that we got her for another series, but I still don't want to see her go...and it makes me wonder what sort of exit Moffat wrote that could either make up for or top "Last Christmas."

As for the next companion, whoever it is, Capaldi's doctor needs a strong personality or someone that balances him very well. I'm sure we'd all love Ingrid Oliver, but it won't be her. Someone from another time period besides modern 2010's would be nice.

I'm sure Jenna is a great actress and the material could allow her to shine but I hate Clara. She's annoying and I'm glad they really are going to move on. I too would like to see a male companion. Mickey and Rory were great foils for the Doctor and Capaldi's doctor does need a great foil.

Yes, I love Evelyn Smythe. I really wanted to see Maggie in NuWho, even if it wasn't as Evelyn or as a Full time Companion. I was heartbroken when she became too ill to act any longer. I would love to see The Doctor travelling with an older woman, but, of course for Demographics purposes they will want someone young as well.

I'd like to see an Asian as a Companion as well.

I generally like it better when the Doctor has multiple people to interact with. My favorite nuWho stories are the one with Amy, Rory, and River all together in the TARDIS.

I would enjoy something like that again. Not necessarily a boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever, but just more than one person. Siblings? Friends? Two totally unrelated people that happen to get stuck traveling with the Doctor for some reason?

I remember reading somewhere that Peter really wanted Jenna to stay for series 10 so I'm sure he will miss her a great deal. She was his first companion after all.

Sibling companions would be fun.

Yeah, he did say that. And he was clearly very fond of her. As was Matt Smith. He (Capaldi) probably tried to convince her to stay but in the end, the show is about change.

Sibling companions would be interesting but would it get old fast?

Looking at the journeys for the companions in nuWho, we've had:

The girl who learned a better way of living her life to the fullest, and who reunited her family (Rose)

The girl who...um...learned to move on for the sake of herself and uh...assert herself to her family? And save the world? (Martha)

The woman who thought she was nothing special but learned she could offer so much more than she ever realized, both to a man who thought he was alone and to the universe itself (Donna)

The Girl Who Waited and her husband, who both had their lives defined from childhood to adulthood by a madman with a box.

The Impossible Girl who became both savior and best friend to a Timelord reeling from loss. And his greatest advocate -- whose pleading got him Extra Lives(tm). Clara's journey was just as much about the Doctor as it was about her. And we've yet to see how it'll end.

So...what road will we go down for the next permanent companion? An alien who is alone because of a ruined civilization and who finds a home and companionship in the TARDIS and a time lord who's also alone? Someone out of their time who gets to see technology beyond their wildest dreams (like Victorian Clara or Jackson Lake)?

The Doctor needs multiple companions. Someone from Earth's past/future, an alien, a tin dog and a penguin.

It would be nice if he gets someone besides a stand female companion. I mean, I get its basically required (even though the Doctor has had some good times without a female companion from modern earth), but maybe give him two companions again? The standard modern Earth female companion, and something cool and different, like a robot or alien.

It's a shame to see Jenna is leaving Dr. Who...she was basically the only redeeming quality in Season 8. :(

How about identical twins? I'd prefer they be male. But if the casting folks thought a pair of female identical twins were the best choice, then so be it. I don't care if they're American, Chinese, French, German, Hispanic, Irish, Japanese, Scottish, Swedish, whatever. Long as they're identical twins.
