Jem and the Holograms (Film)

In the nicest way possible, I can honestly say it looks awful. I used to watch Jem and the Holograms as a kid, and it was an awesome show filled with action, music, and lots of 80s hairstyles. I loved it. This movie? I don't know what this is, but it bears no resemblance at all to Jem.

At no point in that trailer did Jem use her holographic earrings to transform and kick a biker gang's ass. Thumbs down.

So it's JINO (Jem in Name Only).

I really hate the trend of resurrecting dead franchises just to make something that has absolutely nothing to do with the original. *ahem* greenhornet *cough* twentyonejumpstreet *choke* :scream:

Kor

Audrey has been doing fine on Nashville... Oh.

That is not the movie I thought I was waiting for?

Where's the Magic Computer and secret identities?

I still have a shit load of Instant Star to watch, which is that trailer but with heart and balls.

Just like the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

This trailer (and the news that's come out so far) indicates nothing in the film that reflects what was appealing about Jem in the first place--no Misfits, no orphanage, none of Jerrica's original backstory, and no actual holograms. :wtf:

Most tellingly, this film was made on a mere $5-million budget, compared to the nine-figure budgets of any film in the GI Joe or Transformers franchises, which shows how much the studio actually cares about this property.

WORD. I was looking forward to this movie after seeing the promo pics of some of the characters, right up until this morning when I saw this trailer and realized they had just decided to make a sucky remake of the "Josie and the Pussycats" movie without any of the important elements of the original Jem cartoon or even just the charm of Rachel Leigh Cook.

Show's over, Synergy.

As much as I in no way want to defend any part of what I have seen in this trailer, you're wrong on one point: the orphanage (well, foster care home) is there. Because Jerrica and the rest of the Holograms are IN it at the start - THEY are the orphans. How freakin' clever. :scream: I can understand, though, how you'd have missed that detail while looking desperately for anything else that would actually indicate that this is a movie based on the cartoon.

Bayformers all frikkin' over again. Only without even a decent FX budget. They couldn't even be assed to make Rio's hair purple.

I had no real interest in this but you all have my sympathy. I only have the vaguest memories of this. I know my sister watched it as kid. When this movie was announced it brought back memories of the music, fashion, and style of the show. I can see right away this is nothing like that at all. I hate when studios do this.

I'll give them this: they managed to make it Truly Outrageous™. After watching that trailer, I am well and truly outraged. ;)

My memories of the show are vague at best, when I heard about the movie (about three days ago) I hoped for pure, over the top 80's nostalgia, even if they'd made into somewhat of a parody... this, ugh, generic at best.

Has there yet been any 80s reboot that truly embraces 80s-isms? Transformers didn't, for instance.

Can't say I ever watched the cartoon, I think my sister may have. But given the make up, costume, and even the name, I was hoping for some cool 80s music in the trailer. An example of what (I presumed) they'd be playing in the movie.

Instead it's that cheesy as hell One Direction song I must have heard about a million times recently, and I don't even listen to the radio or watch music channels.

Fail.

^yeah, they needed to embrace the 80s!
I can accept Transformers updating, but... this is 1980s fun! They shouldn't have screwed with it! Besides, some of those songs were kinda racy!

Well, on the spoof side, MacGruber more or less did.
