Jeffries Tubes, Kobyashi Maru and other references?

Yeoman Randi

I know that the Jeffries tubes were named for Matt Jeffries, that the Bolians were named for Cliff Bole, "Aunt Adele" was named for Adele Simmons... and i was wondering....was the Kobyashi Maru named for anyone, and if not, where did the name come from?

Also, aside from the Jeffries tubes, the Bolians and Aunt Adele, can anyone tell me if there were other pieces of technology, places, people etc on Star Trek that were named for people that worked on the show?

Thanks!

Back when Gene Roddenberry was a officer with the LAPD, he had a drinking buddy on the force named Wilbur Clingan, which is where you get the name of the Klingons. In Friday's Child, Julie Newmar's character Eleen even pronouses it "Klingan."

There was a USS Curry on DS9, named for DS9 effects supervisor Dan Curry.

Ugly duckling of a starship, though.

Jitty, That's neat! I wasn't aware of that one. Thanks!

T'Girl, I never heard that one before. How cool!

Anyone know of any others? I'm sure there must be more...

From Memory Alpha:

Feinberger was the sobriquet applied to props used in the first incarnation of Star Trek. It referred to the series' property master, Irving Feinberg, who was responsible for acquiring ready-made portable items to be used in the show, as well as caring for specially created items. Feinberg had the ability to find common, everyday objects and use them in a completely futuristic context. An example of this would be the laser scalpels found in sickbay; these, in fact, were salt cellars intended for use in "The Man Trap". (The Making of Star Trek)
Feinberg was protective of his charges, often admonishing cast and crew for perceived mishandling of props. According to David Gerrold, Feinberg went so far as to slap people on the hands and even removed a tribble from a very young girl who simply wanted to pet it. (The Trouble With Tribbles)

The Kobyashi Maru was named after some friends/neighbors of Harve Bennett, by the name of Kobiashi. I think I read this in "the Making of Star Trek II"?

In ST XI, Richard Robau was named for Roberto Orci's uncle.

Oh, who am I kidding? Robau was so badass that his name travelled back in time and so the uncle was named for him. :)

Geordi LaForge was named after a fan and friend of Gene Roddenberry.

And, IIRC, the Kelvin was named for JJ's grandfather.

I've always wanted to know the origin of the Kobyashi Maru name. Cool!

ANJI! YES!! That's right...Thank you for reminding me of the origin of Geordi's name. I do remember reading that now....

anyone know of any others?
