Jean-Claude Van Jonson has the potential to be a really funny show.

Thanks to a thread in the Scifi forum I watched 'The Tick' for the Amazon Pilot season. Another show I saw listed that I never heard of was 'Jean-Claude Van Johnson.' The basic premise of this show is that JCVD plays himself... who's also a secret agent who uses movie shoots as a cover.

The tone of this show is firmly tongue in cheek. Not only does JCVD have no problem poking fun at himself, his delivery of lines is excellent. His opening lines along had me in stitches "You might remember me from Bloodsport. It's on tv all the time, or Time Cop. Which is like Looper but ten times better." Paraphrased perhaps, but I was too busy laughing.

The fight sequences also are pretty good, the man clearly still has it. Of course since this was filmed I'm sure there was a lot of measures in place to "fake" his speed, but the moves still looked impressive regardless.

I hope this gets a fair number of viewers as I would love to see this go to series.

I thought it was fine and worked as a 30 minute short, but if this went to series I'm very curious how they would generate 10+ episodes of this sort of material, given how reliant the humour is on 80's action film references and JCVD's self-awareness of his own celebrity (very much like its fore bearer JCVD from 2008)

It started strong I'll admit, the jokes about pop-up food, the endless rows of JCVD products in his own home, but the actual idea of the series (that he's also secret agent) didn't quite sink for me. Thankfully the "undercover production" he lands of Huck was inspired, but a bit of a shame they stole a Family Guy joke about one of its characters.

Well worth a 30 minute chuckle, but if this got picked up they would have to really expand the central conceit otherwise it could wear thin, quick.

Hugo - Ah fuck man, I thought you were Nicholas Cage

Well 2812 views in the US with a 75% 5* rating over one weekend bodes well for pick-up

Hugo - No, no, everyone in a line, stops things getting confusing (or something akin to that)

I laughed my ass off at times.. JC is cool making fun of himself and his deadpan/confused look (this time even intentional) had me in stitches.

I am a kid of 80s action movies and Van Damme was one of the gods of that era,, Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, Timecop were golden in their days and i had much fun. Of course he lost out later on in the late 90s and 00s but not everybody could remain an icon like Schwarzenegger or Stallone but he still had a fan base.

I like it very much when people, especially actors, can make fun of themselves and about what made them stars and this pilot did that quite well. The ending was a little downer but clearly setting up an ongoing plot so i really hope it gets picked up. There have been far stupider premises for shows that ran for several seasons and if they can find a middle ground between self deprecating humor and a good enough storyline then i'll definitely tune in.

Oh and the show has Phylicia Rashad.. my favorite TV mom from the 80s and 90s and i'm still in love :adore:

Good fun. Hadn't even heard of it before this thread, so thanks for the heads-up!

JCVD assumed that N-Word Jim fucked Vanessa, but I'm betting he's an undercover from a rival agency.

Also, that airplane in flight shot comes from the Daredevil movie (or it's stock that DD also used). Is it sad that I recognized it? Don't answer, I know the truth. :(
