Jazz recommendations

So I'm looking at trying to get back into listening to Jazz on a regular basis again-- used to listen to almost nothing but. So I started going through the old CDs, and realized I want to see what the newer stuff has to offer. It's been so long I don't know were to start. So can anyone recommend some current musicians? If possible I'd prefer some "up and comers" over the "names".

Check out the jazz stations on Pandora to get a feel for what you like. I've found some pretty talented groups. Chris Botti has some recent CDs out. He's an amazing trumpeter.

Jazz is a very large umbrella term. Sort of like "pop" can be show tunes to what many call "rock". Who are the old jazz artist you like?

I'd say Coltrane and Armstrong-- cliche I know-- is what I used to listen to the most. I caught Daniela Schaechter and Melissa Walker on the local NPR station a few weeks back and liked the sound by not the songs.

Stay away from Botti. He's a sack-a-crap.

Stay with Miles Davis, Dizzy, Coltrane, Bird, Brubeck...

as an update for Coltrane try Michael Brecker of the Brecker Brother's studio aces of the 70s fame. He just passed away from cancer but he has a large body of work from playing the saxes on the Average White Band's Pick Up the Pieces. To his solo albums and playing sideman to McCoy Tyner up until a couple of years ago. Wynton Marsailes's personal mission is to keep up the standards of jazz as Afroamerican classical music. however neither are what can be called up and coming voices. Its been years since I've read Down Beat and with smooth jazz taking over all jazz on my local radio i am sort of out of touch with today's young lions in the traditional jazz world.
